Is the graffiti workshop safe for young people?

Absolutely! At Graffitifun, safety is our top priority. We provide all necessary protective gear, including high-quality masks, gloves, and overalls. Our professional artists are highly experienced in leading youth projects in Edinburgh and ensure that every participant follows strict safety protocols. We use low-odour professional spray paint and conduct our sessions in well-ventilated areas to ensure a healthy environment for everyone involved.

How long does a typical youth session last?

Our youth project workshops typically last between 1.5 and 2.5 hours. We've found this is the perfect 'sweet spot' to keep energy levels high and focus sharp without the participants getting tired. During this time, we cover everything from the history of street art and safety briefings to hands-on practice and the creation of a final masterpiece that everyone can be proud of!

Do the participants need to have any drawing skills?

No prior artistic skill is required at all! Our Edinburgh workshops are designed for all levels, from those who can't draw a stick figure to budding Picassos. Our artists specialise in breaking down complex graffiti techniques into simple, manageable steps. We focus on 'controlled chaos' and creative expression, ensuring every young person walks away feeling like a successful artist, regardless of their starting point.

Where in Edinburgh do the workshops take place?

We are incredibly flexible! We can host the workshop at a dedicated street art location in Edinburgh, or we can bring the entire experience to you. If you have a suitable outdoor space or a well-ventilated indoor area at your youth centre or club, we’ll bring the boards, paint, and protection. We’ve organised projects all over the city, from Leith to Lothian!

What materials are included in the workshop?

We provide everything needed for a legendary creative session. This includes a wide array of professional spray cans in every colour of the rainbow, nozzles (caps), protective clothing, masks, gloves, and the surfaces to paint on (usually large wooden boards or canvases). All you need to bring is some old clothes you don't mind getting a tiny bit of paint on and plenty of enthusiasm!

What are the benefits of graffiti workshops for youth groups?

Graffiti is a fantastic tool for youth development. It encourages teamwork, boosts self-esteem through tangible achievement, and provides a healthy outlet for self-expression. Many of our Edinburgh youth projects focus on community themes, helping participants feel a sense of ownership and pride in their local area. It’s a great way to engage young people who might not connect with traditional sports or arts.

How much does a youth project workshop cost?

Our pricing is very competitive, ranging from £25 to £55 per person. The total cost depends on the size of your group, the duration of the project, and the specific materials required. We believe in transparency and accessibility for community groups, so we don't require upfront payments. You can pay after the workshop is completed and you're 100% satisfied with the result!

The experience

Choosing a graffiti workshop for your youth project in Edinburgh isn't just about painting walls; it's about building bridges and confidence. Here is why our sessions are a hit with young people and organisers alike:

Total Inclusivity: You don't need to be an "artist" to succeed—graffiti is for everyone, regardless of their background or ability. 🤝
Instant Gratification: Unlike many art forms, spray paint allows for big, bold results in a very short time, which is incredibly rewarding for teens. ⚡
Pro Mentorship: Our artists are real-world professionals who share their passion and journey, acting as positive role models. 🎤
Teamwork in Action: Creating a large mural requires communication, planning, and cooperation—essential life skills disguised as fun! 🏗️
Safe Expression: We provide a legitimate, legal outlet for creative energy, teaching the difference between vandalism and street art. 🛡️
Stress Relief: There is something therapeutic about the "hiss" of the can and the flow of the paint—it's a great way to decompress. ✨

Step by step

Intro & Inspiring Stories: We kick things off with a high-energy introduction to the world of street art, sharing the history and culture behind graffiti. ✨
Safety First: Everyone gets geared up with masks, gloves, and overalls. We explain how to use the equipment responsibly and safely.
The Masterclass: Our pro artists demonstrate fundamental techniques, from 'tagging' and 'throwing up' to creating cool 3D effects and fades. 🎨
Sketching the Vision: The group works together to brainstorm themes and sketch out their ideas on paper before hitting the 'wall'. 📝
Practical Practice: Participants start on their own practice boards to get a feel for the pressure of the spray can and nozzle control. 💪
The Big Creation: This is the main event! The group collaborates on a large-scale mural or individual masterpieces that bring their vision to life. 🏆
Detailing & Outlining: We teach the tricks of the trade to make the artwork pop, adding sharp outlines and those all-important highlights.
The Reveal & Photos: We step back to admire the finished work. It’s the perfect time for a group photo with your new urban masterpiece! 📸
Clean Up & Wrap Up: We pack up the gear, leaving the site tidy while the young artists take home their newfound skills and pride.

Local culture

Edinburgh is world-famous for its festivals and history, but its urban art scene is a hidden gem waiting to be explored. From the legal walls at Saughton Park to the changing murals in the Cowgate, the city is a canvas of Northern expression. Our workshops tap into this local heritage, drawing inspiration from the gritty charm of the city’s wynds and the vibrant energy of the Fringe. 🎨

Fun Fact: Did you know that Leith was once named the "coolest neighbourhood in the UK" partly due to its thriving street art scene and creative community spirit? It’s the perfect backdrop for a youth project! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

We love connecting with Edinburgh’s youth. Whether we’re discussing the aesthetics of the Union Canal or the contrast between the New Town’s structure and the freedom of graffiti, our sessions are always rooted in the local culture that makes this city so unique.
