Is graffiti spraying safe for primary school children?

Safety is our absolute number one priority. We provide high-quality FFP3 respiratory masks, gloves, and protective suits for every student. Our workshops are held in well-ventilated outdoor areas or specially prepared indoor spaces. The professional artists leading the session are experienced in working with primary-aged children and maintain strict supervision throughout, ensuring everyone uses the spray cans correctly and safely while having a blast!

What should the students wear for the workshop?

We recommend that students wear 'play clothes' or old trainers that you don't mind getting a bit of paint on. While we provide full protective body suits and gloves, kids have a magical way of getting paint in unexpected places! It’s all part of the creative process, but it’s best to be prepared so those brand-new school shoes stay clean. Our water-based paints are high quality but designed to last!

How long does a typical school session last?

Our primary school workshops typically last between 1.5 to 2.5 hours. This includes the initial safety briefing, the sketching and design phase, and the main event: spraying the mural or individual canvases. We find this timing is the 'sweet spot' for keeping younger children engaged and excited without them getting tired. We can easily adjust the schedule to fit your specific school timetable or break times.

Can we choose a specific theme for our mural?

Absolutely! We love it when schools have a specific theme, such as 'The Environment', 'Local History', or 'School Values'. Our artists can pre-sketch a design based on your curriculum topics, allowing the children to fill in the vibrant colours and details. It’s a fantastic way to make a classroom lesson come to life through a massive, colourful piece of art that the whole school can admire.

What happens if it rains on the day of the workshop?

We are fully prepared for the Scottish weather! If you're planning an outdoor session and the clouds roll in, we have backup plans. We can move the workshop indoors using large protective plastic sheeting and focusing on individual canvases with low-odour paints, or we can use portable marquees if space allows. Alternatively, our flexible booking system allows us to reschedule to a drier day if the forecast looks truly miserable.

Do the children need to have prior art skills?

Not at all! One of the best things about graffiti is that it’s accessible to everyone. Our artists guide the children through basic shapes and simple techniques that produce impressive results quickly. This builds huge confidence in children who might struggle with traditional 'fine art.' We see it all the time—the quietest student often ends up being the bravest with a spray can in their hand!

Do we need to provide any materials?

We bring everything! Graffitifun provides the professional-grade spray paint, caps, safety gear (masks, gloves, suits), and the 'canvas' (whether that’s a temporary wooden wall, individual boards, or a designated school wall). We also provide sketches and inspiration. The only thing we need from the school is a creative space and a group of excited students ready to learn a new skill!

The experience

Why choose a Graffitifun workshop for your school in the Scottish capital? It’s more than just painting; it's about building confidence and seeing the world through a more colourful lens! 🎨

Boosts creative confidence: Even the most "I can't draw" kids find success with graffiti techniques. 💪
Teamwork in action: Creating a giant mural requires communication, planning, and supporting each other.
Urban culture education: We teach the difference between vandalism and street art, promoting respect for their city. 🏰
Physical & tactile: It gets kids away from screens and moving their bodies in a large-scale creative way.
Professional vibes: We use the same high-quality tools as the pros, making the kids feel like real artists. 🎤
Stress-free for teachers: We handle all the setup, safety, instruction, and cleanup. You just enjoy the smiles! 🏆

Step by step

Intro & inspiration: We start with a high-energy chat about the history of street art and show some amazing examples to get the kids' imaginations firing.
Safety briefing: We suit everyone up in their protective gear and explain the "golden rules" of using spray cans safely and respectfully.
Design & sketching: Students grab paper and pencils to practice their "tags" and sketch out ideas for the main masterpiece.
Nozzle knowledge: Our pros teach the kids about "caps"—how different nozzles create thin lines, fat lines, or cool fades.
Practice run: Each child gets a chance to practice their spray technique on a practice surface to get a feel for the pressure.
the Big Create: This is it! The pupils work together (or on individual boards) to bring the vibrant, colourful mural to life.
Final touches: Our artists help the kids add those professional "highs and lows"—the outlines and highlights that make the art pop.
Photo op & cleanup: We take group photos with the finished artwork before stripping off the protective gear and tidying up the site perfectly.

Creative collaboration during a graffiti company outing

Local culture

Edinburgh might be famous for its medieval Old Town and stunning castle, but it also has a secret heart draped in spray paint. From the legal walls at Saughton Park to the creative vibes of Leith and the hidden gems in Newington, the capital is a playground for urban creativity. Our workshops tap into this local spirit, showing kids that art isn't just something found in the National Gallery—it's something they can create right here in their own neighbourhood. ✨

Fun Fact: Did you know that Edinburgh hosts some of the most talented street artists in Scotland during the Fringe? By bringing a workshop to your primary school, you’re giving your pupils a chance to join a world-famous creative tradition right here in the "Athens of the North"! 🎨

Pricing

Our Edinburgh school workshops are designed to be affordable and high-impact. Pricing typically ranges from £25 to £55 per person. This variation depends on the total number of students, the amount of paint used, and whether we are creating a permanent mural on a wall or individual canvases for students to take home. 💷

We believe in transparency and flexibility, which is why we don't require any upfront payment—you only pay once the workshop is complete and everyone is happy! 🏆
