Do we need any previous art experience to join?

Absolutely! Most university students in Charleroi have never touched a spray can before. Our professional artists start with the basics, from safety and nozzle control to simple lines and fades. We provide a supportive environment where making mistakes is just part of the creative process. By the end of the session, you'll be amazed at the professional-looking piece you've helped create.

What materials are included in the price?

We provide everything you need to get creative. This includes high-quality spray cans in a huge range of colours, protective overalls, gloves, and respiratory masks. We also bring the canvases or mobile walls if the university doesn't have a designated 'free wall'. Just make sure you wear comfortable clothes and shoes that you don't mind getting a tiny bit of paint on—just in case!

How long does a typical workshop last?

A standard university workshop in Charleroi usually lasts between 1.5 and 2.5 hours. This includes the safety briefing, technique practice, and the creation of a final masterpiece. We can also adapt the timing to fit into a specific lecture gap or a larger campus festival schedule. If you want a more intensive 3-hour deep dive, just let us know!

Can you handle large groups of students?

We are very flexible! We can host small groups for student clubs or large-scale events for several hundred students during orientation weeks. For very large groups, we bring in extra artists and set up multiple 'spray zones' to ensure everyone gets plenty of hands-on time. No matter the size of your cohort, we make sure it stays interactive and fun.

Is the workshop safe for everyone?

Safety is our top priority. We use low-odour, high-quality paints and provide full protective gear, including FFP2 or FFP3 masks. Our artists are trained to manage groups safely and ensure the environment remains clean. We prefer working outdoors for better ventilation, but we also have solutions for well-ventilated indoor spaces or semi-covered areas if the Belgian weather isn't cooperating.

Do we have to pay in advance?

One of the best things about Graffitifun is our 'play now, pay later' policy. You don't need to make any upfront payments to secure your booking. We'll send an invoice after the workshop is completed, which makes the administrative side much easier for university departments or student unions in Charleroi. We believe in our service and want you to be 100% satisfied.

Can we choose a specific theme for our mural?

Definitely! We love incorporating university themes. Whether you want to spray the faculty logo, incorporate Charleroi's iconic 'Black Country' industrial aesthetic, or follow a specific theme for an awareness week (like sustainability or mental health), our artists will help you design a piece that resonates with your student body. It’s a great way to build campus identity and pride.

Step by step

The warm-up: We start with a quick introduction to graffiti history and the basics of street art culture in Charleroi.
Safety first: Everyone gets geared up in protective suits, gloves, and masks while we cover the essential safety rules.
First lines: Under our artists' guidance, you’ll learn how to hold the can, control the pressure, and spray your first clean lines.
Lettering & shapes: We move on to more complex shapes, focusing on 'tags' and basic 'throw-up' styles to get the hang of the flow.
The master plan: Together, we’ll sketch out a large-scale design on the canvas or wall, tailored to your university's theme.
Fill-ins & fades: This is the fun part! You'll fill in the design with vibrant colours, learning how to blend and create smooth gradients.
The outline: Our artists help you add the sharp outlines that make the piece pop and look like a professional mural.
The final touch: We add highlights, 'force fields', and little details that turn the collective work into a finished masterpiece.
Group photo: We wrap up with a massive group photo in front of your creation—perfect for the university social media pages!

Local culture

Charleroi, often called the "Pays Noir" due to its rich coal-mining history, has undergone a massive cultural transformation. Today, it's one of Belgium's hidden gems for street art. The Urban River (la boucle urbaine) project has seen world-class murals pop up along the Sambre and on the walls of old warehouses. Our workshops tap into this local 'Carolo' pride, blending the city's raw industrial heritage with the fresh energy of its student population. 🏭

Fun Fact: Charleroi is home to the "Street Art Tour" which features dozens of huge murals. It's the perfect place to get inspired before you pick up a spray can!

If you're looking for other cool vibes in Belgium, we also host workshops in Brussels, Antwerp, Ghent, and Liege.
