Do the kids need any previous drawing or painting experience?

Absolutely! No prior artistic skills are needed for our youth projects. Our professional artists are expert mentors who guide everyone through the process, from basic spray can control to more advanced shading techniques. We focus on the 'fun' factor, ensuring every participant feels confident and enjoys the creative journey, regardless of their starting level. Everyone goes home with a masterpiece!

Is it safe for young people to work with spray cans?

Safety is our number one priority. We provide high-quality protective overalls, gloves, and specialized masks for all participants. We use professional-grade spray paints and ensure workshops take place in well-ventilated outdoor or indoor spaces. Our instructors are trained to oversee group dynamics and equipment handling, making it a perfectly safe environment for teenagers and young adults.

Where in Charleroi do these youth workshops take place?

We are incredibly flexible when it comes to location! We can host the workshop at a dedicated street art spot in Charleroi, or we can come to your youth club, school, or community centre. If you have a specific wall in mind (with permission), we can work there, or we can bring large mobile canvases to set up a temporary 'graffiti wall' anywhere.

How long does a typical youth graffiti session last?

A standard youth project workshop typically lasts between 2 and 3 hours. This gives us enough time for a proper introduction, sketching and concept design, a practice session on a 'trial wall', and of course, the final production of the main artwork. We can also adapt the timing to fit into your specific event schedule or school day format.

Will the participants actually get to do the painting themselves?

We believe in a 'learning by doing' approach. While we provide a supportive structure, the participants are the ones holding the cans! We encourage them to express their own ideas and styles. Our artists act as coaches—offering tips, fixing minor drips, and showing them tricks—but the final artwork is a genuine reflection of the youth group's collective creativity.

Can we create a permanent mural as part of the youth project?

We sure do! If you want a more permanent mark on your community centre or school, we can create a collaborative mural. Our artist will work with the youth to design a theme, and then everyone contributes a piece to the final large-scale professional mural. It’s a fantastic way to foster a sense of pride and ownership over their local environment.

What is the minimum age for these graffiti workshops?

Our workshops are generally suitable for anyone aged 10 and up. For youth projects, we find that teenagers and young adults (12-25) get the most out of the experience as it allows them to explore more complex themes and technical graffiti skills. We always tailor our teaching style to match the age and maturity level of the specific group.

Step by step

Introduction & Graffiti History: We start with a high-energy intro about the culture of street art and its roots in the community.
Sketching Your Vision: Participants grab markers and paper to brainstorm their 'tags' or group concepts, learning about lettering and composition.
Safety & Gear Up: Everyone gets fitted with protective overalls, masks, and gloves to ensure a clean and safe creative environment.
The First Spray: We head to the wall for a technical briefing. Our artists show how to control the pressure, distance, and angle of the can.
Outline & Fill: This is where the magic happens! Participants start bringing their sketches to life, filling in vibrant colours and bold shapes.
Adding Details: We teach the 'pro moves'—adding highlights, 3D shadows, and sharp outlines to make the artwork pop.
The Big Reveal & Photos: Once the masterpiece is finished, we peel back the tape and take group photos to celebrate the crew's hard work.
Clean-up & Wrap-up: We pack up the gear and discuss the experience, leaving the site exactly as we found it (except for the amazing new art!).

Local culture

Charleroi, once the industrial powerhouse of Belgium, has reinvented itself as a massive, open-air urban gallery. The city’s unique landscape of 'urban decay' has become the perfect canvas for world-class street artists. Walking along the Sambre river or exploring the Quai de 10ème de Ligne, you'll see how street art has breathed new life into the 'Pays Noir'. Our youth projects tap into this local heritage, turning the city's gritty history into a colourful future.

Fun Fact: Did you know Charleroi is often called the "capital of the comic strip"? It's the home of the famous Dupuis publishing house (Spirou, Lucky Luke). Our graffiti workshops often blend this classic Belgian comic style with modern street art aesthetics! 🎨
