Do I need prior graffiti experience to join the teacher training?

Absolutely no prior experience with spray paint is required! Our Nyíregyháza training is designed to take art teachers from 'zero to hero'. We start with the absolute basics of can control, safety, and nozzle types before moving on to complex mural techniques. Our professional artists provide a supportive environment where you can make mistakes and learn at your own pace while gaining confidence.

Is the spray paint safe to use during the workshop?

Yes, safety is our top priority. We provide all necessary Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including high-quality masks with filters, gloves, and protective suits. During the professional development session, we also teach you how to set up a safe workshop environment for your own students, covering ventilation, proper storage of materials, and fire safety protocols essential for school settings.

How long does the training session last?

The training typically lasts between 2 to 4 hours, depending on the specific module you choose. We offer intensive half-day sessions that cover both theory and practical application. If you have a larger group of faculty members in Nyíregyháza, we can customise the duration to fit your professional development schedule or even split it over two days for a deeper dive.

What materials are included in the professional development package?

We provide everything! Your booking includes premium spray cans in a wide variety of colours, different types of nozzles (caps), protective gear, and the surfaces we'll be painting on (usually large boards or mobile walls). We also provide educational handouts and digital resources that you can use in your classroom later. You just need to wear comfortable clothes and shoes you don't mind getting a bit of paint on.

How can I integrate graffiti into my existing school curriculum?

Graffiti is a fantastic tool for engagement because it breaks down the traditional barriers of 'fine art'. Many students who struggle with pencil drawing find the physical, large-scale nature of street art liberating. It teaches colour theory, scale, and composition in a way that feels relevant to their world. Plus, it's a great way to discuss art history, social justice, and urban design.

Can the training be customised for specific age groups or school types?

We pride ourselves on flexibility. While we have a structured curriculum, we love to tailor sessions to your specific needs. If you want to focus specifically on stencil art, 3D lettering, or collaborative mural projects for your school's courtyard, just let us know. We can adapt the Nyíregyháza training to ensure it meets your specific professional development goals and school requirements.

Step by step

Introduction to Street Art Culture: We start with a brief history of graffiti, moving from its roots in NYC to the vibrant Hungarian street art scene.
Gear and Safety Briefing: Learn about different spray cans, low-pressure vs. high-pressure systems, and how to use protective equipment correctly.
Mastering the Nozzle: Practice 'can control' including lines, dots, and fades using various caps (skinny, fat, and calligraphy).
Lettering and Design: Move from basic tags to 'throw-ups' and 'pieces', focusing on structure, 3D effects, and shadows.
The Mural Process: Learn how to scale up a small sketch to a large wall using the 'doodle grid' or 'grid method'—essential for school projects.
Educational Pedagogy: Discuss how to manage a classroom of students with spray cans, including safety rules and project pacing.
Final Collaboration: Put your skills to the test by creating a collaborative mural with your fellow teachers.
Maintenance and Cleanup: Best practices for storing paint and keeping your school's art studio tidy and professional.

Nyíregyháza is a city that thrives on community and growth, and we believe street art is the perfect medium to reflect that spirit. From the lush greenery of the Great Forest to the historic charm of the city squares, there's inspiration everywhere. While Budapest might be the traditional hub for graffiti in Hungary, Nyíregyháza's local art scene is growing, and we want you to be the pioneers of that movement in your schools. Fun fact: Nyíregyháza is known as the 'City of Statues' due to its many public monuments, making it the perfect setting to discuss how modern street art can complement traditional public art installations!
