The experience

Why choose Graffitifun for your next professional development day? We believe that when teachers are inspired, students thrive. Here is why our Queenstown workshops are a total game-changer: 🔥

  • Hands-on experience: Skip the boring PowerPoints and get stuck in with real spray cans and professional materials.
  • Boost student engagement: Street art is one of the most effective ways to reach "disengaged" students—learn how to speak their visual language.
  • Curriculum Ready: Our training aligns with New Zealand's creative curriculum goals, making it easy to justify your PD time.
  • Stress-Free Setup: We handle everything. No stress, no mess, just pure creative flow in one of the world's most beautiful settings.
  • Expert Mentors: Learn from working artists who have years of experience in both the street art scene and teaching environments.
  • Fun Team Building: It’s not just learning; it’s a fantastic way to bond with your colleagues and recharge your creative batteries. 🎨

Step by step

  1. Introduction to Urban Culture: We kick things off with a brief, high-energy look at the history of graffiti and how it evolved into the global street art movement we see today.
  2. Gear Mastery: Learn the ins and outs of the equipment. We cover nozzle types (caps), spray can pressure, and the essential safety gear required for a classroom setting.
  3. Basic Can Control: Head to the boards! You will start with the fundamentals: making straight lines, dots, and fades, and learning how to manage 'drips' like a pro.
  4. Lettering & Flow: Dive into the world of 'tags' and 'throw-ups.' We show you how to teach students to develop their own unique style and letter structure.
  5. Stencilling & Layers: Explore different techniques beyond freehand, including creating stencils and using layering to add depth and pop to any piece of art.
  6. Collaborative Mural: Put your new skills to the test by working on a group project. This mirrors the collaborative environment you’ll want to foster in your own art department.
  7. Curriculum Integration: We wrap up with a discussion on how to translate these skills into lesson plans that meet NCEA requirements and engage diverse learners.

Local culture

Street art in Queenstown

Queenstown isn't just about adrenaline and snow—it's a burgeoning hub for creative expression. While our 'Adventure Capital' is famous for the Remarkables, the local street art scene is quietly making a loud statement. From the hidden gems in the laneways to the vibrant murals near the lakefront, urban art is becoming a part of Queenstown's DNA. Our training sessions tap into this local vibe, often drawing inspiration from the stunning alpine landscapes and the adventurous spirit of the South Island. ✨

Fun Fact: Did you know that some of Queenstown’s most iconic street art is tucked away in the 'St Peter’s' area? It’s a perfect example of how urban art can coexist beautifully with heritage architecture—a great talking point for your future art history lessons! 🏔️
