Is this training suitable for formal school curriculum integration?

Absolutely! Our workshop is designed as a professional development (PD) day. We focus heavily on health and safety, proper ventilation, and non-toxic material choices so you can confidently replicate the setup in a school environment. You'll leave with a full lesson plan and a safety checklist tailored for the New Zealand classroom setting, ensuring your curriculum remains both edgy and compliant.

Do I need prior experience with graffiti to take this course?

No previous spray-painting experience is necessary, mate! While some baseline art knowledge is helpful since you're an educator, we start from the very basics of 'can control.' We'll teach you how to hold the nozzle, manage pressure, and create clean lines. By the end of the session, you'll have transitioned from a beginner to a confident instructor ready to lead a class.

What materials are included in the teacher training package?

We provide everything you need to get your hands dirty—or rather, keep them clean! This includes high-quality low-pressure spray cans, various specialised nozzles (caps), respirators, gloves, and protective suits. We also provide the canvases or practice surfaces. Just show up in comfortable clothes that you don't mind getting a tiny bit of paint on, just in case!

Can you host the training at our specific school or facility?

We are all about flexibility. While we have awesome locations we use in Palmerston North, our 'Graffiti-on-the-Go' service means we can come directly to your school or community centre. As long as there is a well-ventilated outdoor space or a large hall with high ceilings, we can set up our mobile boards and bring the workshop to your doorstep.

How long does the training session usually last?

Typically, our professional development sessions run between 2 to 4 hours. This gives us enough time to cover the history of the movement, technical skill-building, and a collaborative mural project. We can also break it down into a multi-day intensive if you're looking to master complex techniques like multi-layer stencilling or large-scale grid scaling. We'll work around your school timetable!

Do we need to pay for the workshop in advance?

We understand that school budgets can be tricky. That's why we don't require any payment upfront. You can book your training date, get everything organised, and only settle the invoice after the workshop is completed. This ensures you are 100% satisfied with the professional development your staff received before any money changes hands. It's our 'stress-free' guarantee for Palmy educators.

What is the minimum group size for a PD session?

We usually recommend a minimum of 5 participants to keep the energy high and the cost per person low, but we can cater to large faculty groups of up to 30 or more. If you have a very small department, get in touch anyway—we often run 'open' sessions where teachers from different schools in the Manawatū area can vibe together and network while they learn.

The History Lesson: A quick dive into the cultural evolution of street art so you can provide context to your students.
Nozzle & Can Control: Master the 'muscle memory' of spraying, from thin outlines to wide flares and fades.
Lettering & Style: We teach you the anatomy of graffiti letters, helping you guide students in finding their own unique 'tag' and style. 💪
Stencilling Techniques: Learn how to cut and spray high-impact stencils, a perfect entry point for less confident art students.

Lesson Planning Workshop: We sit down to discuss how to translate these skills into a structured, graded art unit for your classroom.

Local culture

Palmerston North has always had a bit of a creative edge, and we love tapping into that Manawatū spirit! From the vibrant murals popping up around Berryman’s Lane to the annual street art displays that brighten up our city corners, 'Palmy' is becoming a canvas for modern expression. We bring that local street-level energy into our training sessions, often referencing the clever works found right here in our backyard. 🔥
