How long does a typical after-school graffiti session last?

Our after-school sessions in Dundalk usually run for 1.5 to 2 hours. This gives the students enough time to learn the basic safety rules, practice their spray painting techniques, and complete a final masterpiece on a canvas or boards. We find this timeframe is perfect for keeping energy levels high and creativity flowing without the kids getting tired out!

Do the students need any prior art skills?

Zero experience is needed! Our professional artists start with the absolute basics, like how to hold the can and control the pressure. We guide the students through every step, from sketching their first tag to adding those professional-looking 'flashes' and outlines. It’s all about having fun and learning a new skill in a relaxed, supportive environment.

Is the spray paint safe for children to use?

Safety is our number one priority. We provide high-quality masks, gloves, and protective overalls for every participant. Our spray paints are water-based or low-solvent where possible, and we always ensure the workshop takes place in a well-ventilated area. Our instructors are experienced in managing groups safely while ensuring everyone has a brilliant time.

What should the kids wear to the workshop?

We recommend wearing old clothes and comfortable shoes that you don't mind getting a bit of paint on. Even though we provide full protective gear like overalls and gloves, sometimes a little bit of 'creative mist' can find its way onto sleeves or shoes. It’s better to be safe and dress for a bit of messy fun!

Where in Dundalk do these workshops take place?

We can host the workshop at your school, a local community centre, or even outdoors if the Dundalk weather is on our side! Ideally, we need a space with good ventilation and enough room for students to move around their canvases. If you're unsure about your venue, just let us know and we can advise on its suitability.

What is the minimum age for the graffiti workshop?

We usually suggest a minimum age of 8 to 10 years old. This is mainly because the spray cans require a certain amount of hand strength and coordination to operate effectively. However, we can adapt our teaching style for different age groups to make sure every student feels included and finishes with a piece of art they are proud of.

Do we have to pay a deposit in advance?

One of the best things about Graffitifun is our 'no-stress' booking policy. You don't need to pay anything upfront to secure your date. We believe in the quality of our workshops so much that you only pay after the session is complete. This makes it much easier for schools and parents' associations to organise without budget headaches.

Step by step

Intro & inspiration: We start with a quick chat about the history of graffiti and look at different styles to get the creative juices flowing.
Safety first: Every student gets kitted out in protective gear and learns the golden rules of using spray cans safely.
The tag creator: Students practice designing their own unique 'tag' or signature on paper before moving to the big league.
First sprays: We head to the practice boards to learn 'can control'—making thin lines, fat dots, and smooth fades.
Developing the piece: Our artists help the kids sketch out a larger piece, focusing on 3D effects and cool letter shapes.
Fill-in & colour: The fun part! Students choose their palette and fill in their designs with vibrant, popping colours.
The final outline: We add those sharp black outlines and white highlights that make the artwork truly stand out.
Gallery show: We wrap up by displaying all the finished canvases for a mini-exhibition and some great group photos!

Local culture

Dundalk has its own unique creative pulse, from the historic charm of Market Square to the modern energy of the DKIT campus. We love bringing our graffiti workshops to this part of Louth because the local talent is always top-notch! The town has a growing appreciation for urban art, seen in the various murals that have popped up around the town centre in recent years. Our workshops help transition that local interest into a hands-on skill for the next generation of Dundalk creators.

Fun Dundalk Fact: Did you know that Dundalk is the birthplace of many creative legends? By bringing street art to the schools here, we're just continuing a long tradition of Louth's artistic expression—albeit with a slightly more colourful, modern twist!
