What exactly is live painting and how does it work?

Live painting is a dynamic performance piece where our artists create a large-scale graffiti mural from scratch during your event in Halifax. Unlike a finished piece of art, the value here is in the process—guests get to watch the artwork evolve, smell the paint, and interact with the artist. It serves as both high-energy entertainment and a unique piece of decor that grows with the party.

Is it messy or smelly for indoor events in Halifax?

We take safety and cleanliness very seriously! We use low-odour, high-quality spray paints and professional-grade drop cloths to protect your venue's floors and walls. If your Halifax venue has strict ventilation rules, we can also use water-based acrylic markers or specialized low-pressure cans. We always coordinate with the venue manager beforehand to ensure a seamless, mess-free experience for everyone involved.

Can we request specific themes or company logos?

Absolutely! One of the best parts of our live painting service is the ability to incorporate your brand colours, logos, or specific themes. Whether it's a corporate gala at the Cunard Centre or a local festival on the Halifax Waterfront, we tailor the design to match your vision. Our artists can even leave space for guests to add their own small 'tags' if you want it to be interactive.

How much space and time do you need for the performance?

The artist usually needs a minimum area of about 3x3 metres to work safely with their materials and the canvas. As for time, most live painting performances last between 2 and 4 hours, though we can scale this up for multi-day festivals. We'll arrive early to set up the 'stage' so everything is ready to go the moment your first guest walks through the door.

Do the guests get to participate in the painting?

While our artists are focused on creating a masterpiece, they love chatting with curious guests! It’s a very social form of art. If you want a more hands-on experience, we can arrange a 'hybrid' session where guests are invited to spray a few lines under the artist's guidance. It’s a fantastic icebreaker and makes for some incredible photos and social media content for your event.

What happens to the artwork after the event ends?

Yes! Once the event is over and the paint is dry, the artwork is yours to keep. Many of our Halifax clients choose to hang the finished canvas in their office lobby or auction it off for charity. We can paint on a single large canvas or several smaller panels that can be distributed later. It’s a lasting memory of an unforgettable Halifax night!

Performance begins: As your guests arrive, the artist starts the first layers, drawing people in with the vibrant colours and motion.
Live evolution: Throughout the event, the piece evolves from a rough sketch into a detailed, professional mural.
Final touches: The artist finishes the piece during the event's climax, providing a perfect backdrop for photos.

Local culture

Halifax has a deep-rooted appreciation for the arts, from the historic murals in the North End to the vibrant displays during the Halifax Mural Festival. We love bringing that same salty, creative East Coast spirit to every event we do in the city. Our artists are inspired by the rugged coastline and the urban grit of the city streets, ensuring your live painting feels authentically "Halifax."

Fun fact: Did you know Halifax is home to some of the most iconic legal graffiti walls in Atlantic Canada? The city's street art scene is a tight-knit community that we are proud to be a part of! ⚓🎨
