Is the graffiti workshop accessible for people with mobility challenges?

Absolutely! We use specialized low-pressure spray cans that are easier to trigger for those with limited hand strength. Our Halifax instructors are trained to provide one-on-one assistance to ensure every participant can express themselves. We can also set up canvases at different heights to accommodate wheelchair users or those who prefer to sit while they create. Building confidence through art is our main goal.

What safety measures do you take during the special needs program?

Safety is our top priority. We provide high-quality protective gear, including masks, gloves, and ponchos. For participants with sensory sensitivities, we can host workshops in well-ventilated outdoor spaces or larger indoor areas in Halifax to reduce noise and fumes. We also use water-based spray paint options upon request, which have significantly less odour than traditional aerosols, making the environment much more comfortable for everyone involved.

Can you bring the graffiti workshop to our own location in Halifax?

Yes, we do! For groups in Halifax that prefer to stay in a familiar environment, our mobile team can bring the entire graffiti studio to you. Whether it’s a community centre, school gym, or a private backyard, we set up protective floor coverings and temporary walls. This flexibility helps reduce the stress of travel for participants and allows them to create in a space where they already feel comfortable.

How long does a typical session last for special needs groups?

Our standard graffiti workshops usually last between 1.5 and 2 hours. However, we know that flexibility is key for special needs programming. We can easily adjust the schedule to include more frequent breaks or simplify the technical steps to match the energy levels of the group. We work closely with caregivers and organizers in Halifax to ensure the pace feels just right—never rushed, always fun!

Do participants need to have any prior art skills?

No artistic experience is required at all! Our professional artists specialize in teaching the basics from scratch. We focus on the 'fun' factor rather than technical perfection. In Halifax, we use stencils and simple techniques that allow participants to see immediate, impressive results. This approach helps boost self-esteem and ensures that everyone leaves with a piece of art they are truly proud of.

What is the ideal group size for this program?

We recommend a minimum of 5 to 10 participants to keep the energy high, but we can accommodate much larger groups too. For special needs programs, we suggest a lower participant-to-instructor ratio to ensure everyone gets the attention they deserve. If you have a very large group in Halifax, we simply bring more backup artists to keep the experience personal, safe, and engaging for every single person.

Local culture

Halifax has a rich history of public art, from the iconic murals on Quinpool Road to the hidden gems in the North End. Our workshops tap into that East Coast creative spirit, offering a space where "Haligonians" of all walks of life can contribute to the city's colourful culture. We love bringing the energy of the Halifax waterfront into our sessions!

Fun Fact: Did you know Halifax is home to some of the oldest legal graffiti walls in Atlantic Canada? It’s a city that truly understands the power of urban expression! ⚓
