The experience

Why settle for ordinary finger painting when you can let the kids unleash their inner Banksy? Our workshops are more than just a fun day out—they are a massive boost for student confidence and team building.

  • Boosts creativity: There are no mistakes in graffiti, only "happy accidents" that lead to new ideas! 💡
  • Team building: Working on a collaborative mural teaches kids how to communicate and share space. 🤝
  • Safe & professional: Our artists are pros at managing big groups of energetic youngsters while keeping things 100% safe.
  • Pride of place: Students feel a massive sense of achievement when they see their finished mural on the school grounds. 🏆
  • Cultural connection: We dive into the history of Johannesburg’s street art, making it a relevant local history lesson.
  • No-stress for teachers: We handle the setup, the instruction, and the cleanup. You just enjoy the smiles! 🔥

Step by step

  1. The introduction: We start with a high-energy intro about the history of street art and how it turned from "vandalism" to a respected global art form.
  2. Safety first: Every learner gets geared up with masks and gloves while we explain the "golden rules" of using spray cans safely.
  3. Mastering the nozzle: Our artists demonstrate different "caps" and show how to control pressure to create thin lines, fat drips, and soft fades.
  4. Sketching the vision: Students grab markers or chalk to outline their big ideas on the boards before the paint starts flying.
  5. Filling in the colour: This is where the magic happens! Learners start filling their designs with vibrant South African-inspired colours.
  6. The outline & highlights: We teach the kids how to make their art "pop" by adding sharp outlines and those crucial white highlights.
  7. Shadow work: A quick lesson on 3D effects to give their graffiti depth and a professional look.
  8. The grand reveal: We step back as a group to admire the collaborative mural or individual masterpieces created by the class.
  9. Clean up & high-fives: We pack up all the gear and leave the area spotless, leaving only the incredible artwork behind!

Local culture

Street art in Johannesburg

Johannesburg is the heartbeat of South African street art! From the iconic murals of Maboneng to the gritty, colourful alleys of Braamfontein, Jozi is a city that speaks through its walls. Our workshops tap into this local heritage, teaching children that art isn't just something you see in a museum—it's part of the urban fabric of their own city. We celebrate the "Joburg hustle" through creativity, showing students how their unique voices can contribute to the beauty of the City of Gold.

Fun Fact: Did you know Johannesburg is home to some of the largest street art murals in all of Africa? Many of these pieces tell stories of our history and hope, making Joburg a world-renowned destination for graffiti enthusiasts! 🌍✨
