Is the spray paint safe for primary school children?

Safety is our top priority! We use low-odour, water-based spray paints whenever possible for younger children. Every student is provided with protective gloves and masks to ensure they don't inhale fumes or get paint on their skin. Our professional artists supervise the group closely, maintaining a safe distance between students while they spray to ensure a fun, accident-free creative session for everyone involved.

Do the kids need prior art experience to participate?

Not at all! Our workshops are designed for absolute beginners. We start with the basics—how to hold a can, how to control pressure, and how to draw simple lines. Our artists guide the children through every step, from sketching their ideas on paper to filling in the final masterpiece. By the end of the session, even the most hesitant student will feel like a confident street artist.

What should the students wear on the day of the workshop?

We recommend that students wear old clothes or a school tracksuit that you don't mind getting a bit of paint on. While we provide protective gear like aprons and gloves, graffiti is a messy, hands-on art form, and stray mist can sometimes find its way onto sleeves or shoes. It’s all part of the authentic artist experience here in Kolkata!

How long does a typical graffiti workshop last?

A typical primary school session lasts between 1.5 to 3 hours. This includes an introduction to the history of street art, a safety briefing, practice time on cardboard or plastic film, and then the final creation of the main mural or individual canvases. We can easily adjust the timing to fit into your specific school timetable or afternoon Activity Club slots.

Where in the school does the workshop take place?

We are very flexible! We can set up large 'cling film' walls between pillars in your school playground, use large wooden boards, or provide individual canvases for each child to take home. If your school has a designated wall that needs a permanent makeover, we can also facilitate a professional mural project where the students contribute to a lasting piece of school history.

What happens if it rains on the day of the event?

The beauty of our Kolkata workshops is we can work around the monsoon! If it rains, we can move the session indoors to a well-ventilated gym, large hall, or covered car park. We use protective floor coverings to ensure your school tiles stay clean. We always have a backup plan so the creative flow never has to stop because of the weather.

Is this activity suitable for children with special educational needs?

Our workshops are incredibly inclusive. Graffiti is a physical and visual medium that transcends language and traditional academic skills. We find that students who might struggle in a standard classroom setting often shine in our workshops. We can adapt our teaching methods to accommodate various learning needs, ensuring every child feels a sense of pride and accomplishment in their work.

Step by step

The classic intro: We start with a high-energy chat about the history of graffiti and how it evolved from street tags to world-class gallery art.
Safety first: Kids get geared up with gloves and masks while our artists explain the 'golden rules' of using spray cans safely.
Design session: Students grab paper and pencils to sketch their wild ideas, focusing on letter shapes and vibrant colour combos.
Can control practice: Before hitting the main wall, everyone practices basic strokes—dots, lines, and flares—on a practice surface.
Outline phase: With help from our pros, the main shapes of the masterpiece are sketched out on the final 'wall' or canvas.
The big fill: This is the fun part! Kids use our professional spray cans to fill in their designs with a rainbow of colours.
Adding the 'pop': We teach the students how to add highlights and shadows to make their graffiti 3D and truly stand out.
The final tag: Every artist signs their work with a unique 'tag' name they’ve created during the session.
Group photo & cleanup: We celebrate the finished mural with a big group photo—a perfect memory of a creative day in Kolkata!

Local culture

Kolkata has always been the cultural heartbeat of India, famous for its literature, cinema, and fine arts. But look closer at the walls of North Kolkata or the trendy lanes of Southern Avenue, and you’ll see a new vibrant energy: street art! We bring that same 'City of Joy' spirit to your school, blending traditional creativity with modern urban techniques. Whether your students are inspired by the local Durga Puja pandal art or the sleek murals of international artists, we help them find their unique voice.

Fun Fact: Did you know that Kolkata is home to some of the oldest street posters and hand-painted advertisements in India? We love showing kids how their spray-painted mural is the next generation of this long-standing local tradition! 🏆
