The experience

Bringing a graffiti workshop to your school isn't just about painting walls—it's about building confidence and teaching a modern, relevant skill set. Here’s why it works so well in Rakiraki:

  • Creative Freedom: Unlike traditional art, there are no 'mistakes' in graffiti, only layers. This helps students overcome the fear of failure. 🎨
  • Collaborative Energy: Working on a large mural requires communication and cooperation, making it an incredible team-building exercise. 🔥
  • Boosted Engagement: Street art speaks to teens. It’s cool, it’s modern, and it gets even the quietest students excited to participate. 🎤
  • Professional Mentorship: Our artists aren't just teachers; they are professionals who share their passion and career path with the kids. 🏆
  • Safety Guaranteed: We handle all the 'dangerous' bits, providing top-tier safety gear and professional supervision throughout.
  • Memorable Results: Your students will talk about the day the graffiti artists came to school for years to come! 🚀

Step by step

  1. Introduction & History: We kick things off with a high-energy intro to the world of street art, its history, and how it evolved from the streets to global galleries.
  2. Safety Briefing: Students are fitted with professional masks and gloves. We explain the 'rules of the road' for using spray cans safely and responsibly.
  3. Mastering the Can: Our artists demonstrate basic techniques like 'fats' and 'thins,' showing how distance and pressure change the way the paint hits the surface.
  4. Sketching the Vision: Before the paint flies, students sketch out their tags or mural ideas on paper, planning their colour schemes and letter styles.
  5. The First Spray: Now for the adrenaline! Students start practicing their lines on a practice area to get a feel for the flow of the paint.
  6. Filling & Fading: We move on to more advanced techniques like colour blending, 3D shadows, and adding 'bits' (decorative elements) to the designs.
  7. The Masterpiece: Working individually or as a team, students execute their final design, putting all their new skills into practice on the main surface.
  8. Outlining & Highlights: The pros show them how to add those sharp black outlines and white highlights that make a piece of graffiti truly 'pop' and look professional.
  9. The Big Reveal: We finish with a group review, photos, and a massive sense of achievement as the students admire their collective street art gallery!

    Street art in Rakiraki

Rakiraki, nestled under the watchful eye of the Nakauvadra Mountains, is a town known for its stunning natural beauty and resilient community spirit. While it might feel a world away from the gritty urban alleyways of New York where graffiti started, the vibrant colours of the Fijian landscape provide the perfect inspiration for modern street art. We love bringing this contemporary art form to your town, blending global urban styles with the legendary warmth and creativity of Rakiraki’s youth. ✨

Fun Fact: Did you know Rakiraki is the gateway to the Bligh Water? Just as navigators have explored these waters for centuries, we invite your students to navigate the bold, flowing lines of graffiti art, discovering new ways to express their unique Fijian identity! 🎨
