What should our campers wear to the graffiti workshop?

For our Lyon summer camp sessions, we recommend wearing old clothes and shoes that you don't mind getting a bit of paint on. While we provide high-quality protective overalls and gloves, graffiti is an energetic and messy art form! Even the most careful artists sometimes get a splash of 'creativity' on their sleeves, so leave the designer gear at home and dress for a day of fun.

Is the spray paint safe for children and teenagers?

Safety is our absolute priority. We provide professional-grade FFP2 or FFP3 masks to ensure no one inhales paint fumes, along with gloves and protective suits. Our artists are highly trained in site safety and group management. We also use low-pressure spray cans which are much easier and safer for younger users to control, ensuring a smooth and injury-free creative experience for everyone involved.

Do the participants need any prior art experience?

Not at all! Our Lyon summer camp workshops are designed for all skill levels, from total beginners to budding young Picassos. Our professional artists break down the process into simple, easy-to-follow steps. Whether they've never touched a spray can before or they're already sketching in notebooks, we'll help them level up their skills and create something they're genuinely proud of.

What happens if it rains during the scheduled workshop?

Lyon is famous for its 'Traboules' and rain, but don't worry! We have great indoor locations available and can also set up mobile 'graffiti walls' (cellograph) in sports halls or community centres. If the weather turns sour, we simply move the party under cover. We make sure the creative flow never stops, regardless of what the French sky decides to do.

How long does a typical summer camp workshop last?

A standard summer camp session usually lasts between 1.5 to 3 hours. This gives us enough time for a safety briefing, a history of street art, technique practice, and finally, the creation of a large-scale masterpiece. For longer camp programmes, we can also arrange multi-day 'street art intensives' where participants can delve deeper into character design, stenciling, and advanced lettering techniques.

What is the minimum and maximum group size?

We are incredibly flexible! Whether you have a small youth group of 10 or a massive summer colony of 100+, we have the staff and materials to handle it. We bring along extra 'backup' artists for larger groups to ensure every camper gets individual attention and guidance. Just let us know your numbers, and we'll create a setup that works perfectly for your group size.

The experience

Why choose Graffitifun for your Lyon summer camp? Because we take ordinary "arts and crafts" and crank it up to eleven! Our workshops aren't just about painting; they're about empowerment and urban culture. ✨

Pro Artist Mentors: Work with real street artists who live and breathe the Lyon art scene.
Total Safety: We use high-quality FFP masks and non-toxic paint practices so parents can relax.
Tons of Materials: We don't skimp on the cans—huge colour palettes for maximum creativity.
Team Spirit: Our large-scale mural projects encourage kids to communicate and collaborate.
Flexible & Mobile: We can come to your camp location or host you at one of our graffiti spots.
Peace of Mind: We have backup artists ready to go, so your event is never cancelled. 💪

Step by step

Intro and street art history: We kick things off with a cool look at the roots of graffiti, from New York subways to Lyon’s own street art scene.
Safety first: Every camper gets geared up with masks, gloves, and overalls. We explain how to handle the cans safely and respectfully.
Mastering the nozzle: Our pros demonstrate basic techniques—lines, dots, and fades. Campers get a 'practice wall' to find their flow.
Sketching the vision: Before hitting the main wall, we help everyone sketch out their ideas, focusing on 'tags', 'throw-ups', and 3D effects.
Colour theory: We teach the kids how to pick colours that pop and how to layer shades for that professional look.
The big production: This is it! The group works together on a massive piece, applying everything they’ve learned to a huge canvas or wall.
Final touches: Our artists help the campers add those sharp outlines and 'highlights' that make the artwork truly stand out.
The big reveal: We finish with a group photo session in front of the masterpiece—perfect for camp memories!

Local culture

Lyon is a city that breathes art, famously known for its stunning Trompe-l'œil murals that cover entire buildings in the Croix-Rousse and Gerland districts. It’s the perfect place for young artists to get inspired! While history buffs love the Roman ruins, the youth culture here is all about the vibrant street art scene hidden in the slopes of the 1st arrondissement. 🔥

Fun Lyon Fact: Did you know Lyon is the mural capital of France? There are over 150 giant frescoes across the city, including the "Mur des Canuts," one of the largest outdoor paintings in Europe! Our workshops help campers feel like a part of this amazing local tradition.
