What age group is the after-school program suitable for?

Our after-school graffiti workshops in Ottawa are designed for students aged 8 to 18. We tailor our teaching style based on the age group present, ensuring younger kids focus on basic shapes and safety, while older teens can dive into complex layering, 'wildstyle' lettering, and advanced can control. It is a fantastic way for youth of all ages to express themselves in a safe, constructive environment.

Is spraying graffiti safe for my child?

Safety is our number one priority! We provide high-quality respiratory masks, gloves, and protective overalls for every participant. Our professional artists also conduct a mandatory safety briefing before any paint is touched. We use low-pressure spray cans which are easier for kids to control, and we always work in well-ventilated outdoor areas or specially equipped indoor spaces within the Ottawa area.

Are all the materials included in the price?

Yes, we bring everything! Your booking includes premium spray paint in a rainbow of colours, caps, protective gear, and the surfaces we’ll be painting on (usually large wooden panels or individual canvases). We even bring sketches and inspiration sheets to help students who aren't sure where to start. You just need to make sure the kids are wearing old clothes and comfortable shoes.

Do students need prior art experience to participate??

Not at all! Our Ottawa team loves teaching beginners. We start with the absolute basics, like how to hold the can and how to create a straight line. Many students are surprised by how quickly they improve in just one session. Whether they are already artistic or have never picked up a marker, we’ll guide them to create something they are proud of.

How long does a typical workshop session last?

We understand that school schedules can be busy! While our standard after-school workshops are typically 2 hours long, we can adjust the timing to fit your specific needs. Some Ottawa schools prefer a shorter 90-minute blast of creativity, while community centres sometimes opt for a more in-depth 3-hour masterclass. Just let us know your preference when you request your quote!

Do we have to pay in advance?

No, there is no upfront payment required to secure your booking in Ottawa. We believe in the quality of our workshops and want you to feel confident. You only pay after the workshop has been successfully completed. This makes the process stress-free for parent councils, teachers, and community organisers who are coordinating budgets and approvals.

What happens if the artist is sick?

Absolutely! We have a reliable network of professional graffiti artists across Ontario and Quebec. We always have backup artists on standby for our Ottawa events to ensure that your after-school program goes ahead as planned, even in the case of an unexpected artist illness. Your event’s success and the kids' excitement are our top priorities.

Can the workshop take place at our school or a local park?

While we often work at schools and community hubs, we can also host groups at various legal graffiti spots or creative spaces throughout Ottawa. If you don't have a venue, let us know! We can help suggest locations that are accessible and suitable for a spray-painting session, ensuring the activity is both legal and incredibly fun.

The experience

Why choose a Graffitifun workshop for your next after-school program in Ottawa? Because we turn "I can't draw" into "Look what I made!" 🚀

Confidence Booster: Seeing a giant mural come to life gives kids a massive sense of achievement. 💪
Totally Unique: It’s not your average art class; it’s an immersive urban experience. 🎤
Professional Mentors: Our artists aren't just talented; they are great with kids and passionate about teaching. 🏆
Stress-Free for Organizers: We bring all the supplies and handle the setup/cleanup. You just provide the space!
Safe & Legal: We teach the difference between vandalism and street art, promoting respect for the community. 😇
Teamwork: Many of our projects involve collaborative murals where kids have to work together to succeed.

Interested in other options? We also do kids parties, full school programs, and even company events across the city!

Step by step

Intro and Safety Briefing: We start with a bang! Our pro artists introduce the history of street art and go over the essential safety rules for using spray cans.
Learning the Gear: Kids get fitted with their masks, gloves, and overalls. We explain how different 'caps' (nozzles) change the spray width.
First Lines: Everyone gets a practice board to try out basic techniques like dots, lines, and fades. It's about getting a feel for the pressure of the can.
Sketching the Concept: Students brainstorm their 'tag' or a group mural theme. We help them translate their ideas from paper to the Wall.
Filling and Outlining: This is where the magic happens! Participants learn how to fill in large areas evenly and then add sharp outlines to make their art pop.
Adding Details: We teach tricks like 3D effects, shadows, and 'highlighters' to give the artwork that professional street art look.
The Masterpiece Reveal: The kids take a step back to admire their hard work. It's a great moment for group photos and high-fives!
Clean-up and Wrap-up: We ensure the area is tidy and the kids remove their gear safely. Everyone leaves with a huge smile and a boost in creative confidence.

Local culture

Ottawa might be known for its historic Parliament buildings and the Rideau Canal, but there is a thriving urban art scene bubbling just beneath the surface. From the legal walls at Tech Wall (Slater and Bronson) to the vibrant murals in Hintonburg and the ByWard Market, the capital is a canvas for incredible talent. Our workshops tap into this local energy, showing Ottawa students that they don't have to go to Toronto or Montreal to find world-class street art culture. 🇨🇦

Fun Fact: Did you know Ottawa has several "Legal Graffiti Walls"? These are designated spots where artists can hone their craft legally, helping to keep our city beautiful while encouraging creative growth!

Our artists are deeply embedded in the local scene and love sharing the "Ottawa style" with the next generation. We encourage students to take inspiration from their surroundings—whether it's the natural beauty of the Gatineau Hills or the urban vibe of Bank Street—to create something uniquely theirs.
