Do we need any prior art experience to participate?

Absolutely! Most university students in our Ottawa workshops have never touched a spray can before. Our professional artists start with the absolute basics, from how to hold the can to mastering pressure control. We provide a supportive, high-energy environment where 'mistakes' are just part of the creative process. You'll be amazed at the professional-looking piece you can produce in just a single session under our guidance.

Where in Ottawa do these workshops take place?

We are fully mobile! We can bring the graffiti workshop directly to your Ottawa campus, whether that's at Carleton, uOttawa, or Algonquin. We set up professional-grade protective plastic and boards to ensure no overspray hits university property. If you'd rather get away from campus, we also have access to cool local studio spaces in areas like Hintonburg or near the ByWard Market. We're all about making it convenient for your group.

Is it safe and what gear do you provide?

Safety is our top priority. We provide high-quality respiratory masks, protective gloves, and designer ponchos to keep your clothes clean. We strictly use low-pressure spray paint which is easier to control and produces less fumes. Our instructors give a comprehensive safety briefing before anyone shakes a can. We've hosted hundreds of events with a perfect safety record, so you can focus entirely on the fun part!

How long does a typical workshop session last?

A standard university workshop usually runs between 1.5 to 3 hours. This gives us enough time for a brief history of street art, a technique demonstration, individual practice, and the final creation of a large-scale collaborative mural or individual canvases. We find this timeframe is perfect for keeping energy levels high without interfering too much with your busy study schedule or lecture blocks.

What is the minimum and maximum group size?

We can handle anything from small club executives of 10 people to massive orientation week events with 100+ participants. For very large groups, we bring in multiple professional artists and set up several 'stations' to ensure everyone gets hands-on time and personal instruction. No matter the size of your frat, sorority, or faculty association, we have the logistical capacity to make it a massive success.

What should students wear to the workshop?

We recommend wearing comfortable 'outdoor' clothes and shoes that you don't mind getting a tiny bit of paint on. While we provide full protective gear including ponchos and gloves, it’s always best to be safe! If we are painting outdoors, check the Ottawa weather forecast and dress in layers. Everything else—the paint, the boards, the caps, and the inspiration—is fully provided by the Graffitifun team.

Can we keep the artwork we create?

Yes! While we love creating giant temporary murals on-site, we also offer workshop formats where every student gets their own high-quality canvas to take home. This is a huge hit for dorm room decor or as a permanent memento of a club event. Let us know during the booking process if you want the 'take-home' canvas option so we can prepare the right materials for your Ottawa group.

The experience

Why choose a graffiti workshop for your next university event? It’s more than just painting; it's about breaking barriers and building community. Here’s why it works:

Maximum Stress Relief: There is something incredibly therapeutic about the 'hiss' of a spray can—the perfect antidote to exam season. 🧠
Zero Barrier to Entry: You don't need to be an 'artist' to succeed. Our pros ensure every student leaves with a piece they're proud of. ✨
Incredible Social Content: Let’s be real, your social feed needs this. The process and the final murals look absolutely stunning on camera. 📸
Team Building That Works: Collaborative murals require communication and shared vision, making it the ultimate low-pressure icebreaker. 🤝
Mobile & Flexible: We come to your turf. Whether it's a parking lot, a courtyard, or a gym, we make the logistics seamless. 🚀

Step by step

Intro & Street Art History: We kick things off with a high-energy intro into the culture and history of graffiti, specifically looking at how Ottawa's own scene has evolved.
Safety & Gear Up: Everyone gets fitted with professional masks, gloves, and protective suits. Safety first, style second!
The Masterclass: Our pro artists demonstrate the 'holy trinity' of graffiti: lines, fades, and highlights. You'll learn how different 'caps' change your stroke.
First Tags: Students head to the practice boards to get a feel for can pressure. This is where you find your 'hand' and shake off the nerves.
Sketching the Vision: Whether it's a faculty logo or a wild-style piece, we help you sketch out the blueprint of your masterpiece.
The Fill-In: This is where the color happens! You'll learn how to layer shades and create that iconic 3D graffiti pop.
Outlining & Detail: The most satisfying part. We'll show you how to use 'skinny caps' to sharpen your edges and make the design stand out.
The Big Reveal & Photos: We wrap up with a group gallery walk and a photoshoot of your crew with the finished work. Perfect for the 'gram!

Creative collaboration during a graffiti company outing

Local culture

Ottawa might be known for its stunning Gothic parliament buildings, but look a little closer and you’ll find a thriving, legal street art scene that rivals any major Canadian hub. Places like the Tech Wall on Slater Street have been the heartbeat of Ottawa’s graffiti culture for decades, showcasing the city's evolving creative identity. Our workshops tap into this local heritage, celebrating the transition of graffiti from the shadows to a respected form of public expression. 🎨

Fun Fact: Did you know that Ottawa has several 'Legal Graffiti Walls' designated by the city? It’s one of the few places in Canada where the municipality actively encourages street art as a way to prevent tagging and support local artists. We often draw inspiration from the murals found in the Glebe and Hintonburg to show students what's possible in their own backyard! 🇨🇦
