Is the graffiti workshop safe for secondary school students?

Safety is our number one priority! We provide high-quality protective gear, including masks, gloves, and overalls. Our spray paints are low-odor and eco-friendly whenever possible. Our professional artists lead the session with a dedicated safety briefing to ensure everyone uses the cans correctly. We also ensure the outdoor or indoor space in Ottawa is well-ventilated so your students can focus entirely on their creative flow without any worries.

How long does a typical workshop session last?

A standard secondary school workshop in Ottawa usually runs between 1.5 to 3 hours. This gives the students enough time to learn the basic techniques, practice their 'tagging' and 'piece' styles, and then collaborate on a final masterpiece. We can also adjust the timing to fit into your specific school periods or extracurricular schedules if you need a shorter or longer session.

What materials are included in the workshop price?

We provide absolutely everything! This includes premium spray paint cans in a huge variety of vibrant colours, caps (nozzles), protective clothing, masks, and the canvases or boards we will be painting on. If the workshop is taking place at your school, we also bring protective floor covering to keep the grounds clean. Your students just need to show up in clothes they don't mind getting a little dusty!

Do students need any prior art experience to participate?

Not at all! Our workshops are designed for all skill levels, from total beginners to budding artists. Our instructors are experts at breaking down complex street art techniques into simple, manageable steps. We find that even students who claim they 'can't draw' often end up being the most enthusiastic participants once they see what they can achieve with a spray can in their hand.

Can you host the workshop directly at our Ottawa school?

Absolutely! While we love hosting workshops at local street art hotspots, we are fully mobile. We can bring the entire graffiti experience to your school playground, gym, or parking lot. We use specialized mobile graffiti walls and ensure the area is protected. It’s a great way to transform your school environment for a day and engage students on their own home turf.

What is the minimum or maximum group size?

We are incredibly flexible with group sizes. Whether you want an intensive session for a small art class of 15 or a massive collaborative event for an entire grade of 200+ students, we can handle it. For larger groups, we simply bring in more of our professional artists to ensure every student gets personalized guidance and a chance to spray. We always keep the energy high!

What happens if it rains on the day of our Ottawa workshop?

Weather in Ottawa can be a bit unpredictable, but we’ve got you covered. If the forecast looks rainy, we can often move the workshop to a covered outdoor area or an indoor space using low-odor paints. Alternatively, we have a pool of backup artists and flexible scheduling, so we can work with you to find a rain date if the weather truly doesn't cooperate for an outdoor session.

The experience

Why choose a graffiti experience for your students? It’s more than just painting; it’s about breaking boundaries and seeing the world through a different lens. Here is why Ottawa schools love working with us:

🔥 Instant Engagement: Unlike a standard art class, graffiti is "cool" by nature, grabbing the attention of even the most reluctant students.
🎨 Professional Mentors: Our artists aren't just teachers; they are active members of the street art community who live and breathe this stuff.
💪 Confidence Booster: Seeing a giant mural come to life creates a massive sense of accomplishment and pride.
✨ Stress Relief: The physical nature of spray painting is a fantastic way for teens to blow off steam and express themselves.
🏆 Zero Risk: With our "no cancellation" guarantee and backup artist pool, your school event is in safe hands.
🤝 Social Skills: Collaborative murals require communication and teamwork—essential skills for any secondary student.

Step by step

Intro & inspiration: We start with a high-energy intro about the history of graffiti and street art culture.
Safety first: Students suit up in protective gear and learn the essential rules of using spray cans safely.
Mastering the nozzle: We teach the basics of 'can control'—how to create thin lines, thick fills, and smooth fades.
Sketching the vision: Students grab markers to sketch their ideas on paper before hitting the walls.
Practice run: Everyone gets a chance to practice their first 'tags' and shapes on a trial surface.
Creating the masterpiece: Now the real fun begins! Students work on their individual canvases or a giant collaborative mural.
Adding the details: Our artists show how to add outlines, highlights, and 3D effects to make the art pop.
The big reveal: We take a group photo with the finished artwork—a proud moment for every student!
Clean up: We pack up all the gear and leave the site spotless, leaving only the amazing art behind.

Local culture

Ottawa has a surprisingly deep relationship with street art! From the authorized graffiti walls at the Tech Wall (Slater and Bronson) to the vibrant murals in Hintonburg and The Glebe, the city is a canvas waiting to be explored. Our workshops tap into this local heritage, showing students that art isn't just found in the National Gallery—it's right here on our streets. 🇨🇦

Fun Fact: Did you know Ottawa actually has several "legal" graffiti zones? These spots were created to give local artists a safe place to hone their craft, much like the professional environment we create for your students!
