Is the graffiti workshop safe for youth?

Absolutely! At Graffitifun, safety is our top priority. We provide high-quality protective gear, including masks, gloves, and overalls. Our workshops in Ottawa are led by professional artists who supervise the entire process, ensuring every spray is done safely. We use low-pressure cans that are easier to control, especially for youth, making the experience both secure and incredibly fun for everyone involved. 🎉

What should participants wear to the workshop?

We recommend wearing comfortable clothes and shoes that you don't mind getting a little paint on. While we provide protective overalls and gear, graffiti can sometimes be a bit messy! Since Ottawa weather can be unpredictable, if we are outdoors, bring a jacket or sunscreen depending on the season. We’ll take care of all the professional art supplies like spray cans and caps. 👕

Do we need any previous art experience?

No prior talent or art experience is needed! Our Ottawa youth projects are designed for all skill levels, from total beginners to aspiring artists. Our pros guide you through every step, from basic lines to advanced shading. We focus on the 'fun' in Graffitifun, ensuring every participant walks away feeling proud of what they created, regardless of their starting point. ✨

How long does a typical youth project last?

Our standard youth project workshops in Ottawa typically last between 1.5 to 3 hours. This gives us enough time to cover safety, technique, sketching, and the final masterpiece. If you have a specific schedule or time constraint for your community group or youth centre, just let us know! We can often tailor the duration to fit your event's specific needs and goals. ⏱️

Can you bring the workshop to our location in Ottawa?

Yes! We are highly flexible. We can host the workshop at one of our partner creative spots in Ottawa, or we can come to your youth centre, school, or community park. If we come to you, we just need a suitable outdoor space or a very well-ventilated indoor area. We handle all the setup and intensive cleanup, leaving the space just as we found it. 🏗️

What is the age limit for youth projects?

We work with a wide range of youth, typically from ages 8 to 18 for our specialized youth projects. We adapt our teaching style and the complexity of the art based on the age group. Whether it's a group of pre-teens or older high school students looking for a creative outlet, we ensure the project is age-appropriate, engaging, and totally cool. 😎

How much does a youth graffiti workshop cost in Ottawa?

Our pricing in Ottawa ranges from C$40 to C$90 per person, depending on the group size, the length of the session, and the specific location. Large community groups often benefit from lower per-person rates. Step by step

The intro: We start with a quick meet-and-greet where our pro artists introduce the vibrant world of street art and essential safety rules.
Design session: Participants grab markers and paper to sketch out their ideas, learning about 'tags' and 'pieces' before hitting the wall.
Gear up: Everyone gets fitted with protective suits, gloves, and masks to keep things clean and safe.
Can control: Our artists demonstrate basic techniques like 'fading,' 'outlining,' and how to control pressure for different effects.
First strokes: Youth start practicing on their own canvas or a communal wall, getting a feel for the spray can't unique flow.
The masterpiece: Under our guidance, the group works on a large-scale project or individual pieces, bringing their sketches to life in vibrant colour.
Final touches: We teach how to add highlights and shadows to make the artwork pop and look professionally finished.
The reveal: We wrap up with a group photo and a 'gallery walk' to admire everyone's creative hard work!

Local culture

Ottawa might be known for its historic Parliament Hill, but its heart beats with a thriving urban art culture. From the legal graffiti walls at Tech Wall (Slater and Bronson) to the vibrant murals in Hintonburg, the city is a playground for creative minds. Our workshops tap into this local spirit, showing youth that Ottawa is a place where tradition meets cutting-edge creativity.

Fun Fact: Did you know Ottawa has several "Legal Graffiti Walls" where artists can paint freely? It’s one of the few cities in Canada that actively supports street art as a positive community outlet! 🇨🇦

We love the local vibe here, and our projects often draw inspiration from the city's unique mix of nature and urban life. Whether we're chatting about the Senators or the best spot for Beavertails, we make sure our workshops feel 100% "Ottawa."
