Do I need any previous art experience to join?

Absolutely! Most of our pop-up participants in Limerick have never touched a spray can before. Our professional artists start with the basics, from how to hold the can to mastering nozzle pressure. We provide a safe, supportive environment where 'mistakes' are just part of the art. You'll be amazed at how quickly you'll go from a nervous beginner to creating a vibrant piece of street art you're proud of.

What materials are included in the workshop?

We provide everything you need to get creative! This includes high-quality spray paint in a huge range of colours, various nozzles (caps) for different effects, protective overalls, gloves, and masks. Depending on the event setup, we also provide the 'canvas'—whether that's a professional graffiti wall, individual boards, or a collaborative mural space. Just bring your enthusiasm and wear clothes you don't mind getting a bit of dust on!

Is the workshop safe for everyone?

Safety is our top priority at every Graffitifun event. We provide FFP2 or FFP3 grade respirators to protect against fumes, along with gloves and protective suits. Our workshops are held in well-ventilated areas or outdoors. Our instructors also give a comprehensive safety briefing before anyone starts spraying, ensuring everyone knows how to handle the equipment responsibly and stay safe while having the time of their lives.

What happens if it rains during the event?

Limerick's weather can be unpredictable, but we've got you covered! If the pop-up is outdoors and rain is forecast, we usually have backup gazebos or an alternative indoor location nearby. We monitor the weather closely leading up to the event. Because we have multiple backup artists and a flexible team, we rarely cancel—we just adapt to make sure the fun keeps flowing, rain or shine.

How long does a typical session last?

Our pop-up workshops typically last between 1.5 and 2 hours, though we can tailor this for specific events. This gives you enough time to learn the techniques, practice your tagging, and complete a full-scale piece. It’s the perfect duration to stay high-energy and focused without feeling rushed. For larger festivals or brand activations in Limerick, we can also run 'drop-in' style sessions throughout the day.

Is there an age limit for participants?

While we don't have a rigid age limit, we generally recommend our pop-up workshops for ages 8 and up. The spray cans require a bit of hand strength and coordination, and children need to be able to wear the protective masks properly. We’ve found that kids, teens, and adults all enjoy the experience equally, making it a fantastic multi-generational activity for families in Limerick looking for something truly unique.

Step by step

Gear up for action: Upon arrival at our Limerick pop-up location, you'll be greeted by our crew and fitted with protective suits, gloves, and masks to keep you looking sharp and staying safe.
Introduction to the cans: Our pro artists will give you a crash course on the equipment. You'll learn about different 'caps' (nozzles) and how they change the width and texture of your spray.
Mastering the lines: Before hitting the main wall, you'll practice basic techniques on a practice surface—learning how to control fades, drips, and sharp outlines.
Sketching your vision: Grab a marker or a light spray colour to map out your design. Whether it's a classic tag or a 3D piece, our artists are there to help you refine your sketch.
The fill-in phase: This is where the colour comes to life! You'll learn how to fill in large areas efficiently while maintaining smooth, vibrant coverage.
Adding the 'pop': Learn the secrets of highlights and shadows. We'll show you how to add that 3D effect and those 'glints' that make your art jump off the wall.
The final outline: The most satisfying part—adding the crisp outer line that ties the whole piece together and makes it look professional.
Photos and 'The Reveal': Once the paint is dry (which happens fast!), we'll take high-quality photos of your masterpiece for you to show off on social media.

Local culture

Limerick has always had a bit of a rebellious, artistic edge. From the incredible murals of the Limerick City of Culture legacy to the vibrant street art found around Wickham Street, the city is a canvas waiting for more. Our pop-up events tap into this local spirit, celebrating the grit and creativity that makes Limerick unique. We love setting up shop near the Shannon or in the heart of the Georgian Quarter, bringing a splash of fresh colour to the city's tech-forward and historic atmosphere.

Fun Fact: Did you know Limerick is home to some of Ireland's most impressive street art trails? Many of the pieces you see around the city were created by world-renowned artists during festivals like "Draw Out," making it the perfect place to learn the craft yourself!
