Do students need any prior art experience to participate?

Absolutely! At Graffitifun, we specialise in making street art accessible to everyone. Our instructors start with the basics of spray can control and safety. Students are guided through the whole process, from sketching their ideas on paper to executing them on the wall. No previous artistic talent or experience is required to have a fantastic time and create something they can be proud of. It is all about the process!

What safety measures are in place during the workshop?

We take safety very seriously. We provide high-quality protective overalls, gloves, and professional-grade masks to ensure students don't breathe in fumes or get paint on their clothes. Our paints are low-pressure and easy to handle, and our instructors are trained to manage groups safely in an outdoor or well-ventilated indoor environment. Professionalism and safety are our top priorities throughout the entire 1.5 to 3-hour session.

What happens to the artwork after the session?

The final masterpiece belongs to you! For school workshops in Differdange, we often work on large plastic foils or mobile wooden panels that can be displayed in the school hallways or playground afterwards. If students work on individual canvases, they get to take their personal artwork home the very same day. It is a brilliant way to brighten up the school environment with student-led creativity.

How long does a typical secondary school workshop last?

Our standard workshops usually last between 1.5 and 3 hours. This timeframe allows enough room for a thorough introduction, brainstorming, practicing techniques, and completing the final group or individual pieces. We can also adapt the duration to fit into your specific school timetable or project day requirements. We are flexible and aim to make the scheduling as easy as possible for teachers.

What materials does the school need to provide?

We bring everything! Graffitifun provides all the necessary spray cans in a wide variety of vibrant colours, caps (nozzles), protective gear, and the 'canvases' (whether that’s foil, wood, or a wall). You just need to provide the space and a group of enthusiastic students ready to learn a new skill. We handle the setup and the cleanup, making it a stress-free experience for the school staff.

Can the workshop be themed around a specific school subject?

While we can certainly focus on pure artistic expression, many schools ask us to incorporate specific themes like 'Equality', 'Environment', or 'School Spirit'. Graffiti is a powerful medium for social messaging. Our artists can lead a discussion on how to translate these complex ideas into visual symbols and tags, making the workshop both a creative session and a valuable educational lesson on communication and social issues.

What happens if the weather is bad on the day?

Luxembourg weather can be unpredictable! If it rains, we have two main options. We can move the workshop to a well-ventilated indoor area (using protective floor coverings), or we can reschedule the event for a better day. Since we have a large team of backup artists, we are very reliable and rarely have to cancel. We will always communicate closely with you to find the best solution.

The experience

Why choose a graffiti workshop for your students? It’s more than just paint on a wall; it’s a powerful tool for engagement and personal growth. Here is why schools in Differdange are booking us:

Boosts creative confidence: We show students that there are no mistakes in graffiti, only opportunities for 'happy accidents', helping shy students find their voice. 🎤
Encourages teamwork: Large-scale murals require communication and coordination, forcing students to work together towards a common goal. 🤝
Authentic street culture: Our workshops are led by real artists who live and breathe this culture, giving students an authentic experience they actually find 'cool'. 🔥
Physical & active: In a world of screens, our workshops get students moving, using their hands, and engaging with their physical environment. 💪
Professional & safe: We handle all the 'boring' stuff like safety risk assessments and high-quality PPE, so you can focus on the fun. 🏆
Memorable results: The pride students feel when they see their finished mural is unmatched—it’s a memory that stays with them for years. ✨

Step by step

Intro & inspiration: Our professional artist kicks things off with a brief history of graffiti culture and a look at different styles to get the students' brains buzzing.
Safety briefing: We suit up! Every student gets protective gear and a thorough explanation on how to use the equipment safely and responsibly.
Design & sketching: Before touching a can, students brainstorm their ideas on paper, learning how to structure letters and choose complementary colour palettes.
Technique practice: Students hit the practice wall to learn 'can control'—mastering lines, dots, and fades under the guidance of our pros.
Creating the piece: Now the main event! Students work together or individually to bring their sketches to life on a large scale.
The finishing touches: We teach techniques like outlining, highlights, and 'force fields' to make the artwork pop off the surface.
Group photo & debrief: We celebrate the hard work with a photoshoot in front of the new masterpiece and a quick chat about what everyone learned.
Sustainable cleanup: We ensure the area is spotless and all materials are packed away, leaving only the beautiful art behind!

Local culture

Differdange, known as the 'Cité du Fer' (City of Iron), has a rugged, industrial soul that provides the perfect backdrop for street art. Transitioning from its heavy industrial past to a modern hub of creativity and science (with the nearby 1535° Creative Hub), the city is a living canvas. Street art in Differdange isn't just decoration; it's a nod to the city's blue-collar history and its innovative future. We love bringing our workshops here because the students often draw inspiration from the metallic textures and grand scale of the local landscape.

Fun fact: Differdange is home to the 1535° Creative Hub, one of the largest spaces dedicated to creative professionals in the region, proving that creativity is at the very heart of this city's modern identity! 🏗️
