Do I need prior graffiti experience to take this training?

You don't need to be a professional artist to join! Our Maldonado training is designed for educators of all skill levels. We teach you the fundamental 'can control' techniques from scratch, ensuring you feel confident enough to demonstrate them to your students. The focus is on the methodology of teaching and safety, rather than having a lifelong portfolio of street art. If you can hold a marker, we can teach you to spray!

Is spray painting safe for a school environment?

Safety is our absolute priority, especially in a school setting. We cover everything from correct mask fitting and ventilation requirements to choosing low-odour, non-toxic water-based paints for indoor sessions. You'll learn how to set up a safe outdoor 'spray zone' and how to manage a group of excited students around aerosol cans. We provide a full safety checklist that you can implement in your own classroom immediately.

Will I receive any materials or lesson plans to take home?

Absolutely! One of the core modules in our Maldonado professional development course is dedicated to 'Graffiti in the Curriculum'. We show you how to link street art to history, social studies, typography, and colour theory. We also provide digital resources and lesson plan templates that align with modern educational standards, making it easy to justify this vibrant art form to your school board or department head.

How does graffiti benefit my students' development?

Graffiti is a powerful tool for reaching students who might feel disconnected from traditional fine arts. It promotes self-expression, builds confidence through large-scale work, and encourages teamwork. In our training, we discuss the psychology of street art and how it can be used as a 'hook' to engage at-risk youth or simply to breathe new life into your art department's standard syllabus. It's about making art relevant.

How long does the training session last?

Our standard teacher training sessions in Maldonado typically last between 2.5 and 4 hours. This gives us enough time to cover the history, the technical skills, safety protocols, and the educational integration strategies. However, we are flexible! If your school or district has a specific professional development slot available, we can tailor the duration to fit your schedule. We also offer multi-day intensives for those wanting a deeper dive into the culture.

How does the 'pay after' system work for schools?

We believe in the quality of our training so much that we don't require upfront payments. You can book your spot and organise the logistics first, and then pay after the workshop has been completed. This makes it much easier for teachers dealing with school procurement departments and budget approvals. We want the process to be as stress-free as possible so you can focus on the creativity!

The experience

Why choose our graffiti training for your professional development? We don't just teach you how to paint; we teach you how to inspire. Here is why educators in Maldonado love working with us:

Engage 'hard-to-reach' students: Graffiti is a universal language that sparks interest in kids who usually check out during art class. 🔥
Zero stress booking: With our 'pay after' policy and backup artists always ready, your PD day is guaranteed to go off without a hitch.
Hands-on mastery: Skip the theory and get straight to the paint—you'll learn more in 3 hours with a can than 3 weeks in a lecture hall. 🎤
Complete safety toolkit: We give you the confidence to handle aerosols safely, covering everything from ventilation to skin protection.
Curriculum ready: Walk away with ready-to-use lesson plans that bridge the gap between street culture and academic requirements. 🏆
Boost your own creativity: It’s not just for the kids! Reinvigorate your own passion for art through a medium that is liberating and fast-paced.

Step by step

Intro to the culture: We start with a brief, high-energy history of street art and why it’s a vital tool for modern education.
Gear and safety briefing: Learn about different nozzles (caps), paint types, and the essential safety gear required for a classroom.
First lines and can control: Get your hands on the cans! We practice basic lines, dots, and pressure control on practice surfaces.
Lettering basics: Master the 'tag' and 'throw-up' styles, focusing on how to teach these structures to students of various ages.
Advanced techniques: Move on to fading, highlighting, and 3D effects to give your pieces that professional pop.
Curriculum integration: A collaborative session brainstorming how to fit these skills into your specific school subjects and goals.
The final mural: Work together with fellow educators to create a large-scale piece, putting all your new skills into practice.
Review and resources: We wrap up with a Q&A and provide you with digital packs, lesson plans, and a certificate of completion.

Good to know

Duration: Usually 2.5 to 4 hours, but we can flex to fit your school's PD schedule.

Local culture

Maldonado is a place where traditional Uruguayan charm meets a surging modern art scene. While nearby Punta del Este gets the glamour, Maldonado's streets are becoming a canvas for local expression and cultural storytelling. The city’s urban layout provides the perfect backdrop for exploring the transition from traditional murals to contemporary street art styles. 🌊

Fun fact: Did you know that the Maldonado region is home to some of the most famous sculpture parks in South America? Integrating spray art into this rich sculptural heritage creates a fascinating dialogue for students between 3D forms and 1D surfaces. By bringing graffiti training here, we're helping local teachers lead the charge in Uruguay’s evolving street art identity! 🇺🇾
