Are the spray paints used in the workshop safe for students?

Absolutely! Safety is our number one priority. We provide all necessary protective gear, including high-quality masks, gloves, and overalls. Our professional instructors give a comprehensive safety briefing before anyone touches a spray can. We use low-odour, high-quality paints, and whenever possible, we conduct the workshops in well-ventilated outdoor areas or dedicated workshops spaces in Winterthur to ensure a healthy environment for all students.

Do the students need any prior artistic experience or drawing skills?

Not at all! Our workshops are designed for absolute beginners. Our artists are expert teachers who break down complex techniques into simple, manageable steps. We start with basic lines and shapes before moving on to 'filling' and 'outlining'. By the end of the session, even students who claim they can't draw a stick figure will have created a vibrant piece of street art they can be proud of.

Where do the workshops take place? Can you come to our school?

We are incredibly flexible. For school groups in Winterthur, we can host the workshop at a local graffiti-friendly wall, or we can bring the entire setup to your school grounds using mobile wooden panels or large canvases. This 'mobile studio' approach means you don't have to worry about transport logistics. We handle the setup and the cleanup, leaving your school premises exactly as we found them.

How long does a typical school graffiti workshop last?

A standard school workshop usually lasts between 2 and 3 hours. This allows enough time for an introduction to graffiti history, safety instructions, practice drills, and the creation of a final masterpiece. However, we can easily adapt the timing to fit your specific school timetable or double-up sessions to accommodate multiple classes in one day. Just let us know your schedule requirements!

Can the workshop be linked to a specific educational theme or curriculum?

Graffiti is a fantastic tool for exploring various subjects. We can focus on 'social justice and activism', 'the history of urban subcultures', or even 'typography and design'. Many teachers use our workshops to decorate school murals or to help students express their identity. We are happy to tailor the creative brief to match your current curriculum or a specific project theme you are working on.

What is the recommended age group for these school workshops?

We recommend a minimum age of 10 or 12 years old (roughly late primary or early secondary school). This is mainly because the spray cans require a certain amount of hand strength and coordination to operate effectively. For younger children, we can modify the workshop using paint markers or stencils. There is no real upper age limit—teenagers in vocational schools or colleges find these sessions particularly engaging!

What are the costs involved, and is there a group discount for schools?

Our pricing is tiered based on the number of participants. For school groups in Winterthur, prices typically range from CHF 40 to CHF 85 per student. This price is all-inclusive of professional artist fees, all materials (paint, caps, boards), and safety equipment. Because every school project is unique, we recommend hitting the 'request a quote' button so we can give you a precise estimate for your group size.

Design the brief: We decide on a theme—whether it's a specific school value, a curriculum topic, or free expression.
Safety & Theory: We start the day with a fun intro to street art history and a vital safety briefing 🛡️.
The 'Tag' practice: Students learn to use the spray cans by practising basic lines and their own 'tag' name.
Sketching the mural: We move on to the big boards, sketching out the main design using light colours.
Filling & Shading: Students learn how to blend colours and add 'fill-ins' to make their letters pop ✨.
The Outline: The most satisfying part! Adding the sharp black outlines that bring the graffiti to life.

Local culture

Winterthur has always been a city that breathes art—from the high-brow halls of the Kunstmuseum to the gritty, creative energy of the Sulzer Areal. Our workshops tap into this local spirit of industrial innovation and artistic flair. We celebrate Winterthur's unique position as Switzerland's sixth-largest city, a place where traditional history meets a thriving youth culture. Did you know? Winterthur is often called the "City of Museums", but we believe some of the best art is found outdoors! 🎨

Fun Fact: Winterthur's street art scene is heavily influenced by its industrial heritage. Many old factory walls in areas like the Lagerplatz have become legal canvases for local legends, making it the perfect backdrop for students to learn the craft.
