How it works

  1. Select your spot: Choose a date and a Wellington location that works for your crowd.
  2. Get the gear: Suit up in our provided protective coveralls and grab your pro-grade mask.
  3. Learn the basics: Our lead artist explains 'can control'—how to hold the spray can and swap nozzles for different effects.
  4. Practice your tag: Start on the practice boards to get a feel for the pressure and distance needed for clean lines.
  5. Sketch your design: Use lighter paint to map out your masterpiece on your main canvas.
  6. Fill and layer: Go wild with colours! Learn how to fill large areas and add gradients or 'fades.'
  7. Add the details: Switch to 'skinny caps' for those sharp outlines and final highlights that make the art pop.
  8. Photo op: Strike a pose with your finished work and the rest of the crew for the 'gram.
  9. Take it home: Your canvas is yours to keep – a permanent reminder of your Wellington street art experience.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to be an artist to join a workshop?

Nope! Our Wellington pop-up workshops are designed for everyone, from total beginners to seasoned scribblers. Our professional artists will guide you through the basics of can control, nozzle selection, and layering techniques. Most of our guests have never held a spray can before they arrive, but they leave with a piece of art they're genuinely proud of. It’s all about having a crack and enjoying the process!

What materials are included in the session?

We provide everything you need to get stuck in: premium spray paint in a massive range of colours, high-quality masks, gloves, and protective suits to keep your gear clean. We also supply the canvases or boards you'll be painting on. Just make sure to wear comfortable shoes you don't mind getting a bit of dust on. We’ve got the rest of the supplies sorted for you!

How long does a pop-up event usually last?

Standard pop-up sessions usually run for about 1.5 to 2 hours. This gives us enough time for a quick safety briefing and intro, some practice on the 'training wall' to find your flow, and then plenty of time to work on your final masterpiece. If you're booking a larger community event or festival activation, we can tailor the duration to suit your specific schedule.

Is it safe to use spray cans?

Safety is our top priority. We use high-quality FFP2 or FFP3 masks to ensure everyone breathes easy while they paint. Our workshops are held in well-ventilated areas, and we provide full protective suits and gloves. Our instructors are experienced pros who keep a close eye on the group to ensure everyone is using the equipment correctly and safely throughout the entire session.

What happens if it rains on the day?

Wellington weather can be a bit 'moody,' but we’ve got you covered! For our pop-up events, we either use covered outdoor areas or arrange for awesome indoor venues where we can set up ventilated spray zones. We always have a backup plan so that the creative fun doesn't have to stop just because the wind is howling through the Cook Strait!

How do I pay for my booking?

We’re all about flexibility! You don't need to pay anything upfront when you book your Wellington pop-up. We trust our community and prefer to focus on the fun first. You can settle the payment after the workshop is complete. We accept various payment methods, so just chat with our team when you request your quote to find the best option for your group.
