Is graffiti art safe for primary school children?

Safety is our top priority! We use low-odor, high-quality spray paints and provide all students with protective gear, including gloves and masks. Our professional artists are experienced in working with primary school children and maintain a structured, supervised environment. We ensure the workspace is well-ventilated or outdoors, making the experience both safe and incredibly fun for every student involved. Everyone stays clean and protected while they create!

Does this workshop encourage illegal tagging or vandalism?

Absolutely not! While we teach the techniques and history of street art, we emphasize that graffiti should only be done on legal walls or canvases. We focus on 'street art as a positive expression' and community building. By giving students a legitimate outlet for their creativity, we actually help them understand the difference between artistic expression and vandalism, encouraging respect for public spaces in Vancouver.

Where do the workshops take place in Vancouver?

We come to you! Whether it's your school playground, a gymnasium with proper ventilation, or a local community space, our team is mobile across Vancouver. We bring all the necessary drop cloths and protective coverings to ensure your school property remains spotless. If you'd prefer an off-site experience, we can also help suggest local areas that are perfect for a creative field trip.

How long does a typical school workshop last?

A typical workshop for primary schools lasts between 1.5 to 2 hours. This provides enough time for a brief history lesson, a safety demonstration, practicing basic spraying techniques, and completing a final masterpiece. We can also adjust the timing to fit into your specific school bell schedule or break sessions into smaller groups to accommodate more classes throughout the day.

What are the costs for a primary school workshop?

In Vancouver, prices generally range from C$40 to C$90 per student. The final cost depends on the number of participants, the duration of the session, and whether students are working on a large shared mural or individual canvases to take home. We offer competitive rates for larger school groups and don't require upfront payments—you pay after the workshop is successfully completed!

What materials do we need to provide?

We handle everything! Graffitifun provides professional-grade spray paint, caps, gloves, masks, and protective body suits for the kids. We also bring the 'canvas'—whether that's large wooden panels, individual canvases, or even a temporary plastic wall. All you need to provide is an enthusiastic group of students and a space for us to set up our creative station.

Step by step

Intro & History: We start with a high-energy talk about the history of street art and how it evolved into a respected art form.
Design Brainstorming: Students sketch out their ideas on paper, focusing on letters, shapes, and vibrant color schemes.
Safety First: Our pros demonstrate how to use the equipment properly, including mask fitting and spray can handling.
Mastering the Can: Kids learn 'can control'—practicing lines, dots, and fades on a practice surface.
Outline Creation: The students begin sketching their main design onto the final surface under our guidance.
Filling & Coloring: This is where the magic happens! The kids fill in their designs with a rainbow of colors.
Adding the Pop: We teach them how to add highlights and sharp outlines to make their artwork really stand out.
The Big Reveal: We finish by reviewing the collective work, taking group photos, and celebrating their new skills.
