Is the graffiti workshop safe for secondary school students?

Absolutely! We take safety very seriously. We provide high-quality FFP3 respirators, protective overalls, and gloves for every student. Our professional artists also give a comprehensive safety briefing before anyone touches a spray can. Since we are working outdoors or in well-ventilated spaces, the environment is kept safe and comfortable for all participants throughout the workshop duration.

Where in Groningen do the workshops take place?

Groningen has several dedicated 'legal walls' where we can host the session, or we can bring the workshop directly to your school grounds! If we come to you, we set up large plastic sheeting and wooden panels or canvases to ensure your school walls stay exactly as they are. Our team handles the entire setup and cleanup process, leaving no mess behind.

Do students need prior art experience to participate?

Not at all! Our workshops are designed for all skill levels. Our artists are experts at breaking down complex street art techniques into simple, manageable steps. Whether a student is a natural illustrator or someone who has never held a pencil, they will be guided to create something they are genuinely proud of by the end of the session.

How long does a typical school workshop last?

A standard secondary school workshop usually lasts between 2 and 3 hours. This provides enough time for the introduction, safety briefing, practice sketches, and the final creation on the boards. However, we are flexible! If you have a specific school timetable to stick to, we can condense or expand the program to fit your schedule perfectly.

What materials are included in the workshop price?

We provide everything needed for a successful creative day! This includes premium low-pressure spray cans (easier for beginners to control), various nozzle 'caps' for different effects, protective clothing, masks, gloves, and the surfaces to paint on (like large wooden panels or individual canvases). All you need to bring is some old shoes and plenty of enthusiasm!

Can the workshop be integrated into our school curriculum?

Graffiti is a brilliant way to explore themes like identity, social justice, or local history. We can easily tailor the workshop to focus on specific subjects, such as creating a mural about sustainability or 'Groningen pride'. Just let us know your educational goals beforehand, and our artists will incorporate these themes into the brainstorm and final design phase.

What is your booking and payment policy for schools?

We understand that school budgets and planning can be complex. That’s why we offer a 'no upfront payment' policy. You can book the date to secure your spot, and payment is only handled after the workshop has been successfully completed. If the weather is looking terrible, we also offer flexible rescheduling options or indoor alternatives to ensure the fun still happens.

The experience

Why choose a graffiti workshop for your students in Groningen? It’s more than just painting; it’s about confidence, teamwork, and discovering new talents. Here is why schools love working with us:

Boosts confidence: Street art is forgiving! Students who might struggle with traditional fine art often excel in the bold, free-form world of graffiti. 🚀
Team building: Creating a collaborative mural requires communication and cooperation, strengthening the bond between classmates.
Professional guidance: Our artists aren't just painters; they are mentors who know how to engage and inspire teenagers. 🔥
Zero stress for teachers: We handle everything from setup to cleanup. You just bring the students and watch them shine!
Authentic experience: We use high-quality, professional materials so students feel like real street artists from the first spray.
Memorable results: Students walk away with a sense of pride and often a physical piece of art to display in the school hallway. ✨

Step by step

Intro & inspiration: We start with a high-energy introduction to the world of street art, explaining its history and how it evolved into the global phenomenon it is today.
Safety first: Every student gets kitted out in protective gear, including suits and masks, followed by a quick masterclass on how to use the equipment safely.
The 'Tag' challenge: Students start by designing their own 'tag' on paper, learning the basics of letter formation and personal style.
Can control basics: Our artists demonstrate 'can control'—showing how distance, speed, and pressure change the lines on the wall.
The big brainstorm: The group works together to decide on a central theme or word for their collaborative mural, ensuring everyone has a voice.
Outline & fills: Students move to the panels to spray their outlines and fill them with vibrant colours using professional-grade paint.
Shadows & highlights: We teach the tricks of the trade, like adding 3D effects, 'shines', and drop shadows to make the art pop.
The final outline: The artists help students add the crisp 'power-line' around their work to give it that professional gallery finish.
Group photo & cleanup: We celebrate the masterpiece with a group photo before our team handles the cleanup, leaving the site spotless.

Local culture

Groningen is a city that breathes creativity, from the bold architecture of the Groninger Museum to the vibrant murals hidden within the Ebbingekwartier. The city has a long-standing relationship with underground art, and its student-driven energy makes it the perfect backdrop for a graffiti workshop. We often find inspiration in the 'Martinitoren' silhouette or the local 'Er gaat niets boven Groningen' spirit. 🎨

Fun Fact: Groningen is home to some of the most famous legal 'hall of fame' walls in the North of the Netherlands, providing a constantly changing gallery of local talent that students can visit for inspiration! 🏆

Whether we are working near the Noorderplantsoen or right on your school playground, we bring that authentic Groningen 'nuchterheid' (down-to-earth) vibe combined with explosive artistic passion.
