Is the workshop safe for teenagers and children?

Absolutely. We prioritise safety above all else, especially with youth groups. We provide high quality gloves, masks, and protective suits to keep those clothes clean. Our instructors are seasoned professionals who monitor the spray can usage closely. Plus, our paint is carefully selected for the best performance while keeping risks at a minimum. Your group is in very safe and capable hands.

How long does a typical youth project last?

Most of our Merida youth workshops last between 2 and 3 hours. This gives us enough time for the intro, sketching, and the main event: spraying the wall! If you have a specific schedule or travel constraints for your group, just let us know. we are flexible and can tailor the duration to fit your project timeline perfectly.

Do the kids need to have prior art skills?

Not at all! Our workshops are designed for everyone, from complete beginners to budding artists. Our Graffitifun instructors break down the process into simple, manageable steps. We focus on building confidence and having a great time. Most participants are shocked at how professional their final piece looks after just a couple of hours of guidance and practice.

What is the maximum group size for a Merida project?

We have a massive network of artists, so we can handle groups of almost any size. Whether it is a small youth club of 10 or a large school assembly of 100, we scale our team accordingly. For very large groups, we often split the participants into squads that work on different sections of a massive collaborative mural. It is a brilliant way to build teamwork!

What materials do we need to provide?

We provide everything! This includes premium spray cans in a rainbow of colours, protective gear, masks, and the canvas or wall space. We even bring the inspiration. Participants just need to wear comfortable clothes that they do not mind getting a tiny bit of dust on, and bring plenty of energy. We handle the setup and the cleanup so you do not have to.

What happens if it rains on the day?

If the heavens open, we have several options. We can often move the workshop to a covered outdoor area or an indoor space with proper ventilation using specialised low odour cans. If the weather looks truly terrible, we can discuss rescheduling. Because we have backup artists and flexible planning, we always find a way to make sure the creative fun still happens!

Is there a minimum age for the participants?

We find that participants aged 8 and up get the most out of the experience. It requires a bit of finger strength to press the nozzles and a certain level of focus to follow the safety instructions. For older teenagers, the workshops are particularly engaging because they tap into the cool, urban culture they see on social media every day. It is the ultimate creative outlet.

The experience

Why choose a graffiti workshop for your youth group in Merida? It is more than just painting: it is an explosion of confidence and collaboration! Here is why our projects are a hit: 🔥

Boosts self esteem: Seeing a massive piece of art you created yourself is an incredible confidence builder.
Encourages teamwork: Working on a shared mural requires communication, planning, and supporting one another. 🤝
Safe environment: We provide a controlled space for kids to explore 'rebellious' art in a constructive and legal way.
Expert guidance: Our professional artists are passionate about mentoring the next generation of creators. 🎤
Ultimate fun factor: Let's be honest, nothing beats the excitement of using a spray can for the first time! 🏆
Memorable results: The group ends up with a stunning piece of art and memories that last a lifetime.

Step by step

The warm welcome: Our pro artists meet the group and introduce the world of street art. We talk about the history of graffiti and set the ground rules for a safe, fun session.
Design and concept: Participants start by sketching their ideas on paper. We help them think about lettering, characters, and how their individual ideas can fit into a larger group mural.
Safety briefing: We get everyone geared up in masks and gloves. We explain how to hold the can, how to control the pressure, and how to stay safe while painting.
Can control practice: Before hitting the main wall, everyone gets a chance to practice lines, dots, and fades on a trial surface. It is all about getting a feel for the spray.
Outlining the masterpiece: The youth group begins to sketch their designs onto the actual wall or canvas. Our artists provide hands-on help to get those proportions just right.
Adding the colour: This is the best part! The group fills in their designs with vibrant colours, learning how to blend shades and create cool effects like highlights and shadows.
The final shadows: We teach the kids how to add 'the 3D effect' or sharp outlines to make their work really pop off the wall. This is where the magic truly happens!
The big reveal: We take a step back to admire the collective work. It is time for a group photo with the finished mural to celebrate what everyone has achieved together.

Local culture

Merida is a city where history meets modern creativity. While it is famous for its stunning colonial architecture and white limestone buildings, the local street art scene is thriving in neighbourhoods like Santiago and Santa Ana. Our workshops tap into this local energy, encouraging young people to add their own voices to the city's artistic dialogue. Graffiti here is a bridge between the ancient Mayan heritage and the contemporary urban pulse. 🎨

Fun Fact: Did you know that Merida is often called 'The White City'? While the origins of the name are debated, we love the idea of using that 'white canvas' as inspiration to bring more colour and life to the youth community through our spray cans! ✨

Pricing

We believe every youth project is unique, so we do not offer a one size fits all price. The total cost depends on how many participants are joining, how long the session lasts, and whether we are bringing the walls to you or painting on site. 💰
