Do I need to have any artistic experience to participate?

Absolutely! Our Rivera workshops are designed specifically for beginners. You don't need any prior drawing or painting skills to join in. Our professional artists will guide you through every single step, from holding the spray can correctly to mastering advanced shading techniques. By the end of the session, you'll be amazed at the professional-looking mural you've helped create. It's all about having fun and being creative!

What should I wear to the workshop?

We've got you covered! We provide high-quality masks, gloves, and protective overalls to keep your clothes safe from stray paint. However, graffiti can be a bit messy, so we always recommend wearing old clothes and comfortable trainers that you don't mind getting a tiny bit of paint on. Once you're suited up, you're ready to start spraying like a pro without any worries!

Is the spray paint safe to use?

Safety is our top priority at Graffitifun. We use high-quality spray paints and provide all necessary safety gear, including FFP2 or FFP3 masks and nitrile gloves. Our instructors are experienced professionals who provide a thorough safety briefing before anyone touches a can. We ensure the workspace is well-ventilated and that everyone follows proper handling procedures to ensure a fun, risk-free creative environment.

How long does a typical session last?

Our standard public art workshops in Rivera typically last between 1.5 to 3 hours. This gives us enough time to cover the history of street art, practice basic techniques, and complete a large-scale collaborative project. If you're looking for something more intensive or a shorter 'taster' session for a festival, we can certainly tailor the duration to fit your specific schedule and goals.

Will I be working on my own piece or a group mural?

Public art is a collaborative journey! Usually, the group works together on a large-scale mural or a series of connected panels that form a massive artwork. This fosters teamwork and allows everyone to contribute to something bigger than themselves. If you're interested in individual canvases to take home, we can also arrange that as part of the 'Kids parties' or 'Company events' packages!

What happens if it rains on the day of the workshop?

Uruguay's weather can be unpredictable, but we always have a plan B! If the weather looks dodgy for an outdoor session in Rivera, we can often move the workshop to a covered outdoor area or an indoor space using specialized low-odour paints. Because we have a large team and backup artists available, we rarely have to cancel—we'll find a way to make the magic happen!

How does the payment process work?

We keep things simple and stress-free for you. There is no upfront payment required when you book your workshop with us. You can arrange the booking, confirm the date, and then pay after the workshop is successfully completed. We believe in the quality of our experience and want to ensure you are 100% satisfied before any money changes hands!

Step by step

Intro & inspiration: We kick things off with a brief history of street art and a look at some iconic styles to get your creative juices flowing.
Safety first: Get geared up in your protective overalls, masks, and gloves while our artists explain the 'golden rules' of spray painting.
The nozzle masterclass: Learn about different 'caps' (nozzles) and how they change the width and texture of your spray lines.
First lines: Head to the wall or canvas to practice basic strokes, dots, and fills. It's all about getting a feel for the pressure of the can!
Sketching the vision: Our lead artist helps the group outline the main design on the wall, ensuring the proportions are spot on.
Adding the colour: This is where the magic happens! Everyone grabs a can and starts filling in the piece with vibrant, bold colours.
Shading & highlights: Learn how to add depth to your art using 'fading' techniques and bright highlights that make the mural pop.
The 'Power-Line': Finish the artwork with a sharp outer contour—the secret to making any graffiti piece look professional and polished.

Local culture

Rivera is a city unlike any other, where the border with Brazil is just a street away! This "Frontier of Peace" provides the perfect backdrop for public art that celebrates unity and multiculturalism. Our workshops often draw inspiration from this unique blend of Uruguayan and Brazilian influences, reflecting the vibrant energy found in the local markets and plazas. 🎨

Fun Fact: Did you know that Rivera and its Brazilian sister city, Santana do Livramento, share an open border marked only by an international plaza? This makes Rivera a literal crossroads of cultures—ideal for a collaborative art project!

While the city is famous for its duty-free shopping, we're here to show you its creative soul. By bringing street art to the streets of Rivera, we're helping to build a visual legacy that residents can be proud of for years to come. ✨
