What exactly is an anti-vandalism graffiti program?

An anti-vandalism workshop is a proactive, educational experience that teaches the difference between illegal tagging and professional street art. In Daugavpils, we focus on redirecting creative energy into legal, controlled environments. Participants learn that spray painting is a skill that requires respect for public property and permission, ultimately fostering a sense of community ownership and pride in the city's visual landscape.

Is this program only for teenagers and kids?

While our primary focus in Daugavpils is on youth and community groups, anyone can join! We tailor the session to the specific age group, whether they are school children, teenagers at risk, or curious adults. The program is specifically designed to be inclusive, ensuring that everyone walks away with a better understanding of legal art practices regardless of their artistic background.

Is the workshop safe for participants?

Safety is our top priority. We provide high-quality protective gear, including masks, gloves, and overalls. Our workshops are held in well-ventilated outdoor locations or specially prepared indoor spaces. Furthermore, our professional artists are trained to supervise the use of spray cans and ensure all participants follow strict safety protocols while having a blast creating their masterpieces.

Do I need to be an artist to participate?

Absolutely not! No prior drawing or painting experience is required to join our Daugavpils workshops. Our professional graffiti artists are experts at breaking down complex mural techniques into easy-to-follow steps. We guide you through everything from holding the can to layering colours. You’ll be surprised at how quickly you can create something impressive with a bit of guidance!

How long does a session in Daugavpils last?

The workshop typically lasts between 1.5 and 3 hours. This gives us enough time for an educational intro, a demonstration of techniques, individual practice, and the final group project. We can adjust the duration based on your group's specific needs or the requirements of your community event. It's the perfect length for a high-energy, engaging educational session.

What materials are included in the workshop price?

We provide everything you need! This includes professional-grade spray cans in a wide variety of colours, protective clothing, masks, gloves, and the canvases or surfaces we will be painting on. All you need to do is show up in comfortable clothes that you don't mind getting a little bit of paint on—just in case! We handle the rest.

Step by step

Educational Introduction: We start with a chat about the history of street art and the clear distinction between vandalism and legal mural art.
Design Brainstorming: Participants work together to sketch out a positive, community-focused theme for the project.
Safety & Gear Check: Everyone gets fitted with professional masks, gloves, and overalls to stay safe and clean.
Spray Can Basics: Our artists demonstrate different nozzles (caps) and how to control spray pressure and distance.
Practice Session: Participants get their first 'hands-on' experience practicing lines, dots, and fills on practice boards.
Outline & Trace: We begin the main project by sketching the large-scale design onto the designated legal wall or canvas.
Colour Application: The real fun begins! Everyone contributes to filling in the colours and learning about gradients.
Detailing & Outlining: In the final stage, we add sharp outlines and highlights to make the artwork pop.
Final Reflection: We wrap up by admiring the collective work and discussing how beautiful legal art improves Daugavpils.

Local culture

Daugavpils is a city defined by its impressive 19th-century fortress and its thriving contemporary art scene, anchored by the legendary Mark Rothko Art Centre. Our anti-vandalism program taps into this local artistic spirit, encouraging the next generation of Daugavpils creators to respect their surroundings while expressing their identity. From the brick-lined streets of the centre to the industrial vibes near the railway, there is so much inspiration to draw from. 🏗️

Fun Fact: Did you know Daugavpils is the birthplace of world-famous abstract expressionist Mark Rothko? While he used brushes and we use spray cans, the passion for colour and emotion remains exactly the same!

We love working in this city because the community truly values its heritage. By teaching legal graffiti practices, we help preserve the beauty of historic sites while giving modern street art a legitimate place to thrive. If you're also active in Riga, Liepaja, Jelgava, or Jurmala, we have programs running there too!
