Is the graffiti workshop safe for secondary school students?

Absolutely! At Graffitifun, safety is our number one priority. We provide all secondary school students with high-quality FFP3 masks, protective gloves, and disposable overalls to keep their uniforms clean. Our professional artists are trained in site safety and supervise the group at all times. We only use professional-grade spray paint in well-ventilated outdoor areas or dedicated workshops spaces in Viljandi to ensure everyone has a blast without any risks.

Do students need any previous art experience?

No prior artistic skill is needed at all! Our workshops are designed to be inclusive and encouraging for every student, regardless of their drawing ability. We start with the basics—how to hold the can, controlling pressure, and making simple lines. Use our online Tag Creator before the session to get some ideas, but don't worry—our local Viljandi artists will guide every student to create something they are proud of!

How long does a typical school session last?

A standard secondary school workshop in Viljandi usually lasts between 1.5 and 3 hours. This gives us enough time for a safety briefing, a demonstration of techniques, individual practice, and the final creation of a large-scale mural or individual canvases. We can also adapt the timing to fit into your specific school timetable or double-period art classes if required.

What is the maximum group size for a workshop?

We are extremely flexible! Whether you have a small art club of 10 students or an entire year group of 100+, we can accommodate you. For larger groups, we bring in several backup artists and extra equipment to ensure every student gets plenty of "can time" and personal instruction. We never want anyone standing around waiting, so we keep the energy high and the paint flowing!

What materials are included in the workshop price?

The workshop is a complete package. We provide all the spray paint (in a huge variety of vibrant colours), caps/nozzles, safety gear (masks, gloves, suits), and the "canvas"—which could be a temporary wall, large wooden boards, or individual canvases for students to take home. We even handle the set-up and the clean-up afterwards. You just need to bring your enthusiasm and some old shoes!

Can we choose a specific theme for our mural?

Definitely! We love it when schools have a specific theme, such as "Sustainability," "Community," or "School Values." We can help the students brainstorm how to turn these concepts into visual street art designs. This makes the workshop not just a fun activity, but a valuable educational tool that connects with the Estonian national curriculum and your school's unique culture in Viljandi.

What happens if it rains on the day of the workshop?

We are big fans of the "show must go on" philosophy! While we prefer working outdoors for the authentic street art vibe, we have indoor solutions for the rainy Estonian weather. We can use large protective plastic sheeting to create a pop-up studio inside a gym or hall, or we can use low-odour water-based cans if ventilation is limited. We also have backup artists ready to go, so we never cancel on you!

The experience

Why choose a graffiti workshop for your school in Viljandi? It’s more than just painting—it’s an educational experience that bridges the gap between traditional art and modern youth culture. Here is why schools love working with Graffitifun:

Boost Confidence: Seeing a giant, colourful mural completed in just a few hours gives students an incredible sense of achievement. 🏆
Team Building: Nothing brings a class together like collaborating on a massive piece of street art.
Authentic Artists: Students learn from real graffiti pros who live and breathe the culture, not just teachers following a manual. 🎤
Curriculum Links: Our sessions can be tailored to cover topics like social commentary, colour theory, and modern art history.
Zero Stress: We bring everything! You don't need to worry about supplies, safety gear, or clean-up. We've got it covered. ✨
No Risk Booking: With our "pay after the workshop" policy and backup artist guarantee, your school event is in safe hands.

Step by step

Introduction & Safety: We start with a high-energy intro about the history of graffiti culture and a vital safety briefing on how to use the equipment properly. ✨
The Tag Creator: Students learn the art of the 'tag'—the foundation of all graffiti. They'll practice sketching their names and styles on paper first.
Can Control 101: Our pro artists demonstrate how to hold the spray can, how distance affects lines, and how to swap nozzles for different effects. 💪
First Lines: Time to get messy! Students head to the practice wall to get a feel for the pressure of the cans and the flow of the paint.
Design Concept: Working individually or in teams, students map out their main piece, choosing colours and layout for their Viljandi masterpiece. 🎨
Filling & Fading: We teach techniques like "filling in" and creating smooth colour gradients (fades) to make the art pop.
Outlining & Highlights: The most satisfying part! Students add the crisp outlines and "power lines" that bring the graffiti to life.
The Reveal & Photos: We take a group photo with the final artwork—a perfect memory for the school yearbook or social media. 📸
Clean Up: We handle all the disposal of cans and gear, leaving your school grounds exactly as we found them (except for the amazing new art!).

Local culture

Viljandi is widely known as the cultural heart of Estonia, famous for its folk music traditions and the stunning views from the ancient castle hills. But there is a modern, edgy side to this town too! From the quirky sculptures scattered around town to the creative energy of the Culture Academy, Viljandi is the perfect backdrop for a street art revolution. We love bringing our workshops here because the students always bring a unique, "Viljandi-style" creative spark to the walls.

Fun Fact: Did you know Viljandi is home to the "Paul Kondas" centre? He was a famous naive artist. We like to think of our graffiti workshops as the modern, urban evolution of that same free-spirited Estonian creativity! 🎭
