Is the graffiti workshop safe for teenagers?

Absolutely! Safety is our number one priority. We provide high-quality respiratory masks, gloves, and protective suits for every participant. Our professional artists are experienced in managing youth groups and ensure that the spray cans are used responsibly. We only work in well-ventilated outdoor areas or specially designated zones in Garissa to ensure a clean and safe breathing environment for all the budding artists involved.

How long does a typical workshop last?

Our youth project workshops typically last between 2 and 3 hours. This gives the group enough time to learn the basic techniques, practice their 'tagging' and 'piece' skills, and collaborate on a large-scale final mural. If you have a specific schedule or a shorter time slot available at your community centre, we can definitely adjust the programme to fit your needs perfectly!

Do the kids need to have any drawing experience?

The great thing about our Garissa workshops is that you don't need any prior artistic skill! Whether the participants are natural-born illustrators or have never held a pen, our artists guide them step-by-step. We focus on the 'fun' element and self-expression, meaning everyone leaves with a sense of achievement and a cool new skill, regardless of their starting level.

What materials do we need to provide?

We take care of everything! Graffitifun provides all the professional spray cans in a wide variety of vibrant colours, protective gear, masks, and the "canvas"—which could be large wooden panels, plastic foil stretched between posts, or even a dedicated wall. You just need to provide the enthusiastic group and a suitable outdoor location. We handle the setup and the cleanup!

What is the maximum group size for a youth project?

We are very flexible! We can host workshops for small groups of 10 or large scale youth events with over 100 participants. For larger groups, we simply bring in more of our professional backup artists to ensure everyone gets enough individual attention and coaching. This keeps the energy high and ensures no one is left standing around waiting for a turn.

Do we have to pay in advance?

We understand that organizing community events can be tricky. That’s why we offer a 'pay after the workshop' policy. You don't need to worry about upfront costs. Once the workshop is finished and you’re 100% satisfied with the creative results and the smiles on the kids' faces, we settle the payment. It’s all about trust and ensuring a stress-free experience for you.

What happens if the weather is bad on the day?

Garissa usually has great weather for outdoor art, but if it rains, we’ve got options! We can move the workshop to a covered outdoor area with plenty of ventilation, or we can reschedule the event for a better day. Because we have a large team and backup artists available, we are usually very flexible with moving dates to ensure your youth project goes off without a hitch.

Focus on teamwork: Designing a large-scale mural requires collaboration, communication, and mutual respect.
Safe & professional: We use top-tier safety gear and professional artists who know how to keep things fun but controlled.
Boosts confidence: Seeing a giant, colourful artwork that they created themselves gives young people a massive sense of achievement. 🚀
Zero risk: No upfront payment is required, and we have backup artists ready to go so your event never gets cancelled.
Interactive tools: Use our Tag Creator to design your art online before we even start the workshop! 💻

Step by step

Intro & inspiration: We start with a high-energy introduction to the history of street art and show some epic examples to get the group's creative juices flowing.
Safety briefing: Our pros demonstrate how to use the equipment safely, including mask fitting and proper spray can handling to keep everyone protected. ✨
First lines: Participants grab a can and learn the basics on a practice surface—mastering nozzle pressure, distance, and hand speed.
Sketching the concept: The group works together or individually to sketch out their design ideas on paper before moving to the 'big' canvas.
Outline & fill: Time to go big! Under our guidance, the youth start outlining their designs and filling them with bold, vibrant colours. 🔥
Details & highlights: We teach advanced tricks like adding 'shadows', 'highlights', and '3D effects' to make the artwork really pop off the wall.
The final tag: Every artist signs their work with a unique tag, claiming their spot in the Garissa street art scene. 🖋️
Group photo & cleanup: We wrap up with a massive group photo in front of the masterpiece, then our team handles all the leftover materials and waste.

Local culture

Garissa is a city of incredible resilience and vibrant culture, sitting right on the banks of the Tana River. While traditional art forms have deep roots here, the modern youth are increasingly looking for new ways to connect with global urban trends. Our workshops bridge that gap, bringing the international language of street art to the local community. We love seeing how Garissa's unique energy—from the bustling markets to the scenic river vistas—influences the colours and shapes the participants choose. 🏜️

Fun fact: Garissa is known as one of the sunniest spots in Kenya! This makes it the perfect location for outdoor graffiti sessions, where the natural light makes our neon and metallic paints shine even brighter against the local skyline.
