Is the graffiti workshop safe for young people?

Absolutely! Safety is our top priority for youth projects in Kisumu. We provide all participants with high-quality protective gear, including masks and gloves. Our professional artists are experienced in supervising young groups, ensuring that the spray cans are used correctly and responsibly. We select outdoor locations with excellent ventilation or well-ventilated indoor spaces to ensure a healthy environment for everyone involved.

Where in Kisumu do the workshops take place?

Our youth workshops are incredibly flexible! We can host the session at your community centre, school grounds, or a local park in Kisumu. Alternatively, we can help arrange a legal street art wall in the city for a truly authentic experience. If you’re worried about the weather or don't have a wall, we can bring large canvases or mobile wooden panels to your chosen location.

Do the participants need previous art experience?

Not at all! Our workshops are designed for all skill levels, from absolute beginners to those who are already artistic. Our artists guide the youth through the basic techniques of can control, fading, and outlining. It’s all about the process of learning and expressing oneself, so there is no pressure to be "good" right away. Everyone leaves with something they are proud of!

How long does a typical youth workshop last?

A standard youth project session usually lasts between 2 and 3 hours. This gives the group enough time to learn the history of street art, practice their techniques on cardboard, and then complete a final masterpiece. We can also organise full-day "street art intensives" or multi-day projects if you are looking for a deeper dive into the culture and more complex mural designs.

What materials are included in the workshop?

We provide everything you need to get creative! This includes a wide variety of professional spray paint colours, caps (nozzles) for different effects, protective clothing, masks, and gloves. We also bring sketching materials and the surfaces to paint on, whether that’s a wall, boards, or individual canvases. You just need to bring your energy and clothes that you don't mind getting a bit of dust on!

Can we create a collaborative mural together?

Definitely! Our youth projects are often used as team-building or community-bonding exercises. Participants can work together on one large mural that represents their collective identity or a specific social theme. This collaborative approach encourages communication, problem-solving, and shared pride in a final product that can brighten up a local Kisumu neighbourhood or youth centre for years to come.

How do we book a workshop for our group?

Booking is easy and hassle-free. Start by using our online Cost Calculator to get an instant estimate, or simply fill out our contact form. We don't require any upfront payment—you only pay after the workshop is successfully completed. Once we've discussed your vision for Kisumu, we’ll pair you with one of our talented local artists to bring the project to life!

The experience

Why choose a graffiti workshop for your next youth initiative in Kisumu? Because it’s more than just painting—it’s about confidence, teamwork, and finding a voice through art. Unlike traditional classroom settings, our workshops are dynamic and tactile, making them perfect for keeping young minds engaged.

Boosts confidence: Seeing a massive piece of art you created yourself provides an incredible sense of pride and self-worth. 💪
Teaches teamwork: Large-scale murals require communication and coordination, bringing the youth of Kisumu closer together.
Safe & legal: We teach the difference between vandalism and street art, providing a legal outlet for creative expression. 🛡️
Hands-on skills: From colour theory to spatial awareness, participants learn practical artistic techniques they can use forever.
Professional mentors: Our artists aren't just teachers; they are active street art pros who inspire through their own work. 🎤
Memorable experience: It’s not every day you get to spray paint a wall! It’s an experience that participants will talk about for years.

Step by step

Introduction & style: We start with a quick intro to graffiti history and the different styles found around the globe.
Safety briefing: Our artists explain how to use the gear and spray cans safely to protect yourselves and the environment.
Sketching your vision: Participants grab markers and paper to draft their tags or "pieces" before touching a spray can.
Mastering the can: We head to the wall (or canvas) to practice basic lines, dots, and pressure control techniques.
First layers: You’ll start filling in your design with vibrant colours, learning how to blend and fade like a pro.
The outline: This is where the magic happens! We teach you how to sharpen your artwork with crisp outer lines.
Adding highlights: Learn how to add "shines" and 3D effects to make your graffiti jump off the surface.
The big reveal: Step back and admire the collective work of art—this is the perfect time for a group photoshoot!
Cleanup & wrap-up: We pack up the gear, leaving the area tidy and the participants with a huge sense of achievement.

Good to know

Our youth workshops are designed to be as accessible and stress-free as possible. We pride ourselves on flexibility and professional delivery in every session.

Duration: Typically 2 to 3 hours, but we can extend this for larger community murals.
Group Sizes: We cater to groups from 10 participants up to 100+ (with multiple artists).

Local culture

Kisumu, the vibrant heart of Western Kenya, is a city defined by its stunning lakeside views and a growing urban energy. From the bustling corridors of Kondele to the serene banks of Lake Victoria, there is an undeniable spirit of "pamoja" (togetherness) here. While traditional art has deep roots in the region, the youth of Kisumu are increasingly turning to street art to express their identity and share their stories. We love tapping into this "Dala" vibe, encouraging participants to incorporate local symbols—like the iconic tilapia or the sails of dhows—into their graffiti designs.

Fun Fact: Did you know that Kisumu is one of Kenya's fastest-growing hubs for creative technology and arts? By participating in a graffiti project here, you're joining a thriving movement of urban transformation that is turning "The Port City" into a colourful outdoor gallery! 🎨
