Do the participants need any previous art experience?

Absolutely! No prior artistic skills are needed. Our professional artists are expert mentors who specialise in guiding young people through the basics. We start with simple lines and shapes before moving on to more complex techniques. The focus of our youth projects in Nijmegen is on self-expression, confidence building, and having a blast, so everyone leaves feeling like a pro!

Is the graffiti workshop safe for teenagers?

Safety is our number one priority. We provide high-quality respiratory masks, gloves, and protective overalls to keep everyone safe and clean. Our workshops take place in well-ventilated outdoor areas or dedicated legal graffiti zones in Nijmegen. Our instructors are also trained to supervise groups and ensure that spray cans are used responsibly and safely throughout the entire session.

What kind of materials are provided for the workshop?

We use premium, low-pressure spray cans that are easier for younger hands to control. We also provide a wide spectrum of vibrant colours, professional-grade caps (nozzles) for different line thicknesses, and protective gear. For youth projects, we often use large wooden panels or plastic film stretched between pillars, ensuring a massive canvas for the group to work on collectively.

How long does a typical youth graffiti session last?

A standard youth project session in Nijmegen typically lasts between 1.5 to 3 hours. This includes the initial briefing, sketching phase, practice rounds, and the final creation of the masterpiece. We can also adapt the timing to fit into a larger community event or school schedule if you have specific time constraints or requirements.

Where in Nijmegen do the workshops take place?

Nijmegen has some fantastic legal street art spots, such as the Waalhalla area. We usually host workshops at these inspiring locations to give participants an authentic experience. However, if you have a specific venue in mind—like a community centre or school car park—we can often bring the workshop to you, provided there is enough space and ventilation.

What are the benefits of graffiti for youth development?

Graffiti is a brilliant tool for youth engagement! It encourages teamwork, boosts self-esteem, and provides a constructive outlet for energy. Many youth workers in the Gelderland region find that street art helps reach young people who might not engage with traditional sports or arts. It’s about taking ownership of their environment and expressing their unique identity in a positive way.

Local culture

Nijmegen is a city where history meets a modern, edgy vibe. While it’s famous for its Roman roots, the contemporary street art scene is thriving, particularly around the Waalhalla skatepark and the Honigcomplex. These industrial backdrops provide the perfect inspiration for our workshops, connecting the youth with Nijmegen's evolving urban culture. 🏰

Fun Fact: Did you know Nijmegen hosts some of the most impressive mural projects in the country? Local artists frequently transform dull tunnels and walls into vibrant stories, making the city a literal open-air gallery!
