Do the students need any prior art experience?

Absolutely! Our Medan after-school sessions are designed specifically for beginners. Our professional street artists guide the students through every single step, from basic spray can control to more complex shading and lettering. We focus on building confidence and skills in a supportive environment, so no previous drawing experience is required to create something awesome!

What safety measures do you have in place?

We take safety very seriously. We provide high-quality respiratory masks, disposable gloves, and protective suits for all participants. Additionally, we use low-pressure spray cans which are much easier for younger artists to handle and control. Our instructors are trained to oversee the group closely, ensuring a fun but completely safe creative environment for everyone involved.

How long does a typical workshop session last?

Our standard after-school workshops in Medan typically run between 1.5 to 2 hours. This provides plenty of time for a proper introduction, sketching out ideas, and the actual painting process. We can also adapt the schedule into a multi-week programme if you’re looking for a more in-depth artistic journey for your students.

What materials do we need to provide?

We provide everything! This includes a wide range of professional spray paint colours, caps, protective gear, and the surfaces to paint on (like canvases or large boards). You don't need to shop for supplies; we bring the entire mobile studio directly to your location in Medan, making it easy and stress-free for school organisers.

What happens if it rains on the day of the workshop?

Rain doesn't have to stop the fun! If you have a well-ventilated indoor space like a sports hall or a large garage with open doors, we can move the workshop inside using floor protection and low-odour paints where possible. Alternatively, we can reschedule the session to a sunnier day to ensure the best possible experience for the kids.

Can the children take their artwork home?

One of the best parts of our Medan workshops is that everyone gets to keep what they make! Students usually paint on individual canvases or boards that they can take home the same day. It’s a fantastic way for them to show off their new skills to their family and friends.

What is the recommended age for these workshops?

Our after-school programmes are generally suited for children aged 8 and up. At this age, they typically have the hand strength and coordination to operate the spray cans effectively. We can adjust our teaching style and the complexity of the designs based on the specific age group to ensure everyone stays engaged and inspired.

The experience

Why choose a graffiti workshop for your after-school programme in Medan? It’s more than just painting on walls—it’s a massive boost for student engagement and personal growth!

Unleash hidden talent: Many kids who struggle with traditional art find their voice through the bold, physical nature of graffiti. ✨
Stress relief: Spraying paint is a fantastic sensory experience that helps students unwind after a long day of academic study.
Team building: Our collaborative mural options teach kids how to communicate and work together toward a massive visual goal. 🤝
No risk booking: With our backup artist policy and "pay after" system, your school event is in safe hands.
Skill development: Improve fine motor skills, spatial awareness, and colour theory in the coolest way possible.

Step by step

Introduction & safety briefing: We kick things off with a quick chat about street art history and a vital safety demo on how to use the gear correctly.
Mastering the can: Students get their first hands-on experience, learning how to hold the can and control the pressure for different line widths.
Sketching the vision: Every great piece starts with a plan! We help students sketch their personal tags or designs onto paper first.
Outline techniques: Using their sketches as a guide, the kids transfer their designs onto the canvas with light, guiding sprays.
Filling with colour: This is where the magic happens! We teach them how to blend colours and fill in their designs for maximum impact.
Adding the 'pop': We show the students how to add highlights and deep shadows to give their work that professional 3D look.
The final outline: The artists-in-training use a contrasting colour to sharpen the edges of their work, making the design stand out.
Group gallery & photos: We finish with a celebratory 'gallery walk' to admire everyone's work and take some awesome photos for the school!

Local culture

Medan is a city alive with texture and history, from the stunning Maimun Palace to the bustling streets of Kesawan. Recently, the local street art scene has exploded, with vibrant murals popping up that celebrate North Sumatran culture and modern Indonesian life. Our workshops tap into this local energy, encouraging students to draw inspiration from the city's unique mix of Melayu, Chinese, and Batak influences. We love seeing how Medan’s youth incorporate these local vibes into their contemporary graffiti styles! 🏛️

Fun Fact: Medan is home to some of the most impressive large-scale murals in Sumatra, often hidden in plain sight near the historic Old City area. Next time you're near Jalan Ahmad Yani, keep your eyes peeled for some world-class "mural art"!
