Is the graffiti summer camp safe for children and teenagers?

Absolutely! At Graffitifun, safety is our number one priority. We provide all participants in Dessie with high-quality protective gear, including masks, gloves, and overalls. Our professional instructors are experts at teaching youth how to handle spray cans responsibly and safely. We use low-odor paints whenever possible and conduct our summer camp sessions in well-ventilated outdoor areas or spacious indoor setups to ensure a healthy environment for everyone.

Do the kids need to have previous drawing or painting skills?

No prior artistic experience is needed at all! Our workshops are designed to take students from 'zero to hero.' We start with the basics—sketching and can control—before moving on to more complex techniques. Our Dessie artists are very patient and great at encouraging kids who might feel shy about their drawing skills. We guarantee that every participant will create something they are truly proud of by the end of the day.

What should participants wear to the workshop in Dessie?

We recommend wearing comfortable clothes that you don't mind getting a little bit of paint on. While we provide full protective suits (coveralls) and gloves, sometimes a little 'creative splash' can find its way onto shoes or sleeves. It is best to wear old sneakers and casual clothing so the kids can focus entirely on their masterpiece without worrying about their outfit. We handle the rest of the professional gear!

How long does a typical graffiti session last?

Our standard summer camp sessions usually last between 1.5 to 3 hours. This timeframe is the 'sweet spot' for keeping energy levels high and focus sharp. During this time, we cover the history of street art, practice techniques on plastic film or practice walls, and then complete a final collective or individual project. We can also customize the duration for multi-day camp schedules if your organization requires it.

Where in Dessie do the workshops take place?

We are totally flexible! We can host the summer camp at your own location in Dessie—whether that is a school field, a community center, or a sports club. If you do not have a location, we can arrange a professional graffiti spot nearby. We use mobile 'graffiti walls' (cellophane stretches between poles) which means we can turn almost any open space into a temporary street art studio without leaving a permanent mess.

What is the age limit for the summer camp participants?

Our summer camp program is ideal for youth aged 8 to 18. We categorize the groups based on age to ensure the teaching style and complexity of the art match their developmental stage. Younger children focus more on color and basic shapes, while teenagers often dive into complex lettering, 3D effects, and shading. It is a fantastic way for different age groups to bond over a shared creative goal.

How do we book a summer camp session and what is the payment process?

Booking is easy and stress-free! You can start by using our online Cost Calculator to get an estimate, or simply send us a message through our contact form. We will discuss your group size, preferred dates in Dessie, and any special themes you want to include. The best part? No upfront payment is required. You only pay after the workshop is completed and you are 100% satisfied with the experience.

The experience

Why choose a graffiti workshop for your next summer camp in Dessie? It’s not just about making a mess—it’s about structured creativity that resonates with today's youth. Here is why it works:

Ultimate Cool Factor: Let’s be honest, graffiti is way cooler than standard crafts! It engages even the most "hard-to-reach" teenagers. 😎
Boosts Confidence: Seeing a giant mural come to life from their own hands gives kids a massive sense of achievement.
Team Building: Many of our projects require students to collaborate on a single large wall, teaching them communication and shared vision.
Skill Development: Participants learn can control, color theory, and spatial awareness in a hands-on, tactical way.
Professional Mentors: Our artists aren't just teachers; they are active street artists who provide real-world creative inspiration.
Worry-Free Planning: With our backup artist guarantee and no-prepayment policy, your camp schedule is safe with us! 🛡️

Step by step

Introduction & Safety: We start with a high-energy intro about street art culture and gear up with professional masks, gloves, and suits.
The tag creator: Students learn the basics of "tagging"—finding their own unique artist name and sketching it out on paper.
Spray can techniques: Our pros teach the kids how to hold the can, control the pressure, and create different line thicknesses.
Practice session: Everyone gets a chance to spray their first lines and shapes on a practice wall to build confidence.
Design the masterpiece: The group works together to plan a large-scale mural or individual canvases based on the camp's theme.
Filling & Fading: Kids learn how to fill in large areas with color and create cool gradient "fade" effects.
Outlining & Detailing: The "magic" step! We add sharp outlines and highlights to make the artwork pop and look professional.
Group Photo & Review: We celebrate the hard work with a group photo in front of the final artwork—a perfect memory for the camp album.
Cleanup & Wrap-up: We pack up the gear, leaving the site clean and the participants inspired with their new skills.

Good to know

Our graffiti workshops are designed to be hassle-free for camp organizers. We provide a "all-in" service so you can sit back and watch the magic happen. 💪

Duration: Typically 1.5 to 3 hours (flexible schedules available).
Group Size: From small groups of 10 to large camp gatherings of 100+ (we bring extra artists!).
Included: All spray paint, professional protective gear, practice walls, and canvases.
Safety: Full safety briefing provided; non-toxic, high-quality paints used.
Weather: We have backup plans for rain — we can work under tents or move to indoor-safe "plastic walls."

Local culture

Dessie, the "city of the plateau," has always been a hub of trade and culture in the Amhara Region. Between the cool breezes of the surrounding mountains and the bustling energy of the city center, there is a unique spirit here that begs to be captured on canvas. We love bringing our graffiti summer camp to Dessie because the local youth have such a rhythmic and vibrant sense of design!

Fun Fact: Did you know Dessie's name comes from the Amharic word for "My Joy"? That is exactly the vibe we bring to our workshops. From the bustling markets to the quiet hillsides, we draw inspiration from the local scenery to help students create art that feels connected to their home. Whether we are setting up near the stadium or at a local youth center, the energy of Dessie makes every mural special. 🏙️ 🔥
