What is the minimum age for youth project participants?

For our youth projects in Dessie, we generally recommend a minimum age of 8 years old. This ensures that the participants have the physical strength to press the spray caps and the focus to follow safety instructions. We use water-based paints for younger groups when possible, ensuring a safe, fun, and age-appropriate introduction to the world of street art and creative expression.

Is the paint safe and do you provide protective gear?

Safety is our absolute priority. We provide high-quality protective gear, including masks, gloves, and overalls to keep clothes clean. Our professional instructors conduct a thorough safety briefing before anyone touches a spray can. We also ensure the workshop area is well-ventilated. Our artists are experienced in managing groups of young people, ensuring everyone has a blast while staying completely safe.

Do the kids need any prior drawing or art experience?

Not at all! Our workshops are designed for absolute beginners. We start with the very basics—how to hold the can, how to control the pressure, and how to draw simple lines. Our 'Graffitifun' artists guide each participant step-by-step. By the end of the session, even those who thought they weren't 'artistic' are usually amazed by the masterpiece they've created.

Where in Dessie do these workshops take place?

The beauty of our youth projects is flexibility! We can provide a mobile setup with large plastic canvases or wooden panels at your youth center, school, or a local park in Dessie. Alternatively, we can sometimes arrange for a session at a legal street art wall if one is available. We handle all the logistics and setup, so you just need to provide the space!

How long does a typical graffiti session last?

A standard youth workshop typically lasts between 1.5 to 3 hours. This gives us enough time for a solid introduction, some practice drills, and the creation of a final large-scale piece. We find this is the 'sweet spot' for keeping energy levels high and engagement focused without the participants getting tired. We can also adapt the timing for full-day festivals or shorter sessions.

Do we need to pay in advance to secure a booking?

We believe in our service so much that we don't require upfront payments for most bookings. You can book your date and pay after the workshop is successfully completed. This gives youth organizers and parents peace of mind. We also have backup artists ready to go, so you never have to worry about a cancellation ruining your planned event.

How much does a workshop cost for a large youth group?

Our pricing in Dessie is flexible and depends on the number of participants and the specific location. Generally, prices range from Br1500 to Br3500 per person. Larger youth groups often benefit from significant discounts. Since every youth project has different needs, we always recommend reaching out for a custom quote to get the best possible rate for your specific event.

The experience

Why choose a Graffitifun workshop for your youth project in Dessie? It’s not just about art; it’s about impact. Here is why we are the top choice for local organizers:

💪 Boosts self-esteem: Seeing a giant mural come to life gives young people a massive sense of accomplishment.
🔥 Safe expression: We provide a controlled, legal outlet for urban expression that keeps kids off the streets and onto the canvas.
🎤 Voice of the youth: Our workshops allow participants to visual their dreams and challenges through art.
🎉 Pure fun: Let’s be honest, nothing beats the excitement of using a spray can for the first time!
🏆 Professional mentors: Our artists aren't just experts; they are mentors who inspire creativity and discipline.
✨ No stress for you: We handle the setup, the cleanup, and provide all the gear. You just provide the energy!

Step by step

The warm-up: We start with a high-energy intro about the history of graffiti and how it evolved from street culture into a recognized art form.
Safety first: Every participant gets geared up with gloves, masks, and protective suits. Safety is non-negotiable!
Mastering the can: We teach the 'secret' techniques—distance, speed, and cap pressure—to get the perfect line.
Sketching the vision: Participants brainstorm themes like community, hope, or local Dessie pride to create a rough layout.
The main event: It's time to spray! Under our artists' guidance, the youth begin filling in the colors and shapes.
Adding the 'pop': We teach how to add highlights, shadows, and those sharp outlines that make graffiti stand out.
The final tag: Everyone learns to create their own unique artist signature to mark their contribution.
Gallery walk: We finish with a group photo and a celebration of the creative work achieved together.

Local culture

Dessie, the "city on a hill," has always been a hub of culture and trade in the Amhara region. By introducing modern street art to this historic landscape, we’re bridging the gap between tradition and the contemporary world. Our workshops often draw inspiration from the vibrant colors of local markets and the breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains. We love seeing how Dessie’s youth incorporate local symbols into their graffiti pieces!

Fun fact: Did you know Dessie's name roughly translates to "My Joy"? That's exactly the vibe we bring to every workshop we host here! 🏆
