Is the graffiti workshop suitable for children and families?

While we recommend a minimum age of 6 to ensure participants can handle the spray cans comfortably, our Mercedes pop-up events are designed for everyone! We use high-quality, low-pressure cans that are easier for smaller hands and beginners to control. Whether you are a child, a teenager, or a grandparent looking to try something new, our artists adapt their teaching style to suit your age and ability level. It is all about family-friendly fun!

Do I need any previous artistic experience to join in?

Not at all! Most of our participants in Mercedes have never picked up a spray can before. Our professional artists are experts at breaking down complex techniques into simple, manageable steps. We start with basic lines and shapes before moving on to more advanced skills like shading and highlighting. You will be amazed at how quickly you can create something impressive with just a little bit of guidance from our friendly team.

What materials are included in the pop-up event?

We provide everything you need to create your masterpiece! This includes a wide range of premium spray paint colours, high-quality caps, protective gloves, masks, and overall suits to keep your clothes clean. We also provide the canvases or boards you will be painting on. All you need to bring is your enthusiasm and maybe a bottle of water. We suggest wearing comfortable shoes and old clothes just in case!

Is the spray paint safe to use, and what about protection?

Safety is our number one priority. We facilitate our workshops in well-ventilated outdoor or large indoor spaces. We provide all participants with FFP2 or FFP3 grade masks and nitryl gloves to ensure a safe environment. Our lead artists also give a comprehensive safety briefing before anyone starts spraying, explaining how to use the equipment correctly and respect the workspace. You are in very safe hands with the Graffitifun crew!

How long does a typical pop-up session last?

Pop-up events are incredibly flexible! A typical session lasts between 1.5 to 3 hours, but because it is a pop-up format, we can often accommodate 'drop-in' style participation where guests paint for 30–45 minutes. If you are booking a private slot for a group, we recommend the full 2-hour experience to get the best results and really dive into the creative process. Let us know what fits your schedule best!

Can we take our graffiti creations home with us?

Usually, our pop-up events allow you to take your artwork home! If you paint on an individual canvas, it will be dry enough to transport within about 15-20 minutes after finishing. For larger collaborative murals or wooden boards, we can discuss transport options or local delivery. There is nothing quite like hanging your own authentic piece of street art on your wall as a souvenir of your day in Mercedes.

What happens if it rains during the event?

Uruguay weather can be unpredictable, but we always have a plan! If we are set up outdoors and it rains, we usually have gazebos or temporary shelters to keep the artists and the artwork dry. If the weather is truly severe, we work with local Mercedes venues to move the event indoors or reschedule to the next available sunny slot. We ensure the creative vibes keep flowing regardless of the clouds!

Step by step

Arrival and check-in: Swing by our vibrant pop-up station in Mercedes, meet our friendly crew, and get signed in for your session.
Gear up for action: Put on your protective overalls, gloves, and mask. We make sure you look like a pro before you even start!
Can control 101: Your lead artist will demonstrate how to hold the spray can, how to swap caps for different effects, and the importance of distance and speed.
Sketching your design: Grab a marker or a light-coloured can to outline your ideas. Don't worry, we have plenty of inspiration and stencils if you get 'artist's block'!
Filling in the colour: This is the best part! Start filling in your shapes with bold, vibrant colours. Learn how to layer paint without it running.
Adding the details: Master the 'cut-in' technique to sharpen your edges and add highlights or 3D shadows to make your work pop.
The final outline: Add a crisp black or dark outline to bring your whole piece together. This is where the magic really happens!
Photo op and dry time: Strike a pose with your masterpiece for the 'gram! While your art dries, check out what other participants have created.
Take it home: Once dry, carefully pack up your canvas and take a piece of Mercedes street culture home with you.

Local culture

Mercedes, known as the "City of Landscapes", is famous for its stunning waterfront and historic charm, but it’s also a town with a growing appreciation for contemporary art. Our pop-up event taps into that local spirit, offering a modern twist to the local cultural scene. We love setting up near the Manzana 20 cultural space or along the Rambla, where the riverside breeze keeps the vibes cool while the spray paint gets hot! 🎨

Fun Fact: Did you know that Mercedes is the capital of jazz in Uruguay? We love to time our pop-up events to coincide with local festivals, blending the rhythmic flow of music with the visual flow of street art. It's all about that "Río Negro" inspiration! 🌊
