Is the workshop safe for teenagers?

Absolutely! Safety is our top priority. We provide high-quality respiratory masks, gloves, and protective suits to keep everyone safe and clean. Our instructors are professional artists who supervise the group throughout the entire session, ensuring the spray cans are used correctly and responsibly. We only use high-quality paint that meets safety standards, making it a worry-free experience for youth leaders and parents alike.

How long does a youth graffiti project last?

Our youth workshops in Mercedes typically last between 2 and 3 hours. This gives us enough time for a proper introduction, a sketching phase where the kids can plan their designs, and plenty of time for the actual painting. If you have a specific schedule or a larger festival-style event, we can adapt the duration to fit your needs perfectly!

Do we need to provide any materials?

We handle everything! Graffitifun provides all the necessary street art supplies, including a wide range of spray paint colours, caps, protective gear, and the 'canvas' (which could be a wall, wooden panels, or individual canvases). All you need to bring is some old clothes that you don't mind getting a tiny bit of paint on and a whole lot of energy!

Do the participants need to be good at drawing?

One of the best things about graffiti is that it's for everyone! No previous drawing or painting experience is needed. Our professional artists are expert teachers who break down the techniques into easy, manageable steps. We've seen 'non-creative' kids walk away with absolute masterpieces. It’s all about building confidence and having a blast with the process.

Where in Mercedes does the workshop take place?

We are super flexible. We can host the project at a dedicated street art location in Mercedes, or we can bring the workshop to your youth club, school, or community centre. If you have a wall available, that's great! If not, we bring mobile practice walls so we can set up almost anywhere outdoors or in well-ventilated indoor spaces.

Will the kids actually get to use the spray cans themselves?

Definitely. We believe in 'learning by doing'. While we show them the ropes and teach them the tricks of the trade, the kids are the ones holding the cans. We encourage them to express their own style and ideas, resulting in a collaborative mural or individual pieces that they can truly call their own. It’s their vision, brought to life with our help.

The experience

Why choose a graffiti workshop for your next youth project in Mercedes? It’s more than just paint on a wall; it’s about empowering the community. Here is why our sessions are a hit:

Total creative freedom: Young people get to express themselves in a way traditional art classes usually don't allow. 🎨
Skill building: From motor skills to design thinking, graffiti teaches more than you'd think!
Confidence booster: Seeing a giant mural they helped create gives teens a massive sense of achievement. 🏆
Safe and professional: We provide all the gear and expert guidance so everyone stays safe and clean.
No cancellations: We have backup artists ready to go, so your event in Mercedes is guaranteed to happen. 💪
Community pride: Transforming a space with art creates a lasting bond between the youth and their city.

Step by step

Intro and safety briefing: We kick things off with a high-energy intro, explaining how the day will go and getting everyone geared up in their protective suits and masks.
History and techniques: Our artists share a bit of street art culture and demonstrate the basic 'can control' techniques—lines, dots, and fades.
Concept sketching: The group brainstorms a theme or 'tag' and starts sketching their ideas onto paper to plan the masterpiece.
First lines: It’s time to grab the cans! Participants start by outlining their designs on the wall or canvas under expert guidance.
Filling in the colours: This is where it gets vibrant. We teach the youth how to blend colours and create those iconic graffiti gradients.
Adding the 'cut-outs' and highlights: To make the art pop, we add sharp outlines and highlights that give the work depth and a professional look.
Final touches and details: The participants add their personal flares, tags, and extra decorations to truly own their artwork.
The big reveal: We take a group photo with the finished mural—a proud moment for every young artist involved!

Local culture

Mercedes, the heart of the Soriano department, has always been a city of artists and dreamers. While most visitors flock to the Rambla for the views, the real creative energy is found in the community. Our youth projects tap into this spirit, adding a modern, urban twist to the "City of Landscapes". Street art in Uruguay is a powerful tool for storytelling, and we love helping the local youth of Mercedes tell theirs. ✨

Fun fact: Mercedes is famously called the "Ciudad de los Paisajes" (City of Landscapes), and we think there's always room for one more landscape—a vibrant, colourful graffiti mural created by the next generation! 🎤
