What exactly is live painting and how does it work?

Live painting is a dynamic performance where our artist creates a large-scale piece of graffiti or street art from scratch during your event. In Kilkenny, we bring all the necessary equipment, including boards, drop-cloths, and premium low-odour spray paint. It’s an interactive spectacle that gives your guests a front-row seat to the creative process, turning a blank wall into a masterpiece before their eyes. It’s perfect for weddings, corporate launches, or festivals.

Can you do live painting indoors or is it just for outside?

We totally understand concerns about fumes! For indoor events in Kilkenny, we use specialized low-pressure, low-odour spray cans and water-based markers. We also ensure the workspace is properly ventilated and shielded. If you have a specific indoor venue in mind, just let us know and we can discuss the best setup to keep the air fresh while the art stays vibrant. Safety and comfort are our top priorities.

Do we get to keep the artwork after the event is over?

That’s the best part! You can absolutely keep the finished product. We usually paint on large wooden panels or stretched canvases that are easy to transport once dry. Many of our Kilkenny clients choose to display the finished artwork in their offices, shops, or even at home as a permanent memory of the event. It’s a custom-made piece of Kilkenny street art that belongs entirely to you.

Can our guests participate in the painting process?

While the main event is a professional performance, we love getting people involved! If you’d like a 'hybrid' session where guests can add a few strokes or spray a stencil under our guidance, we can definitely arrange that. It’s a brilliant way to make the event more interactive. Just mention this when you’re booking so we can bring extra protective gear for your guests to use safely.

How long does a typical live painting session last?

A standard live painting performance usually takes between 2 to 4 hours, depending on the complexity of the design and the size of the surface. We can easily time the piece to coincide with your event’s schedule—for example, starting during a drinks reception and finishing as the main party kicks off. We’re flexible and will work around your Kilkenny event timeline to ensure maximum impact.

How far in advance do I need to book?

We generally recommend booking at least 3 to 6 weeks in advance, especially for weekend events or during the busy summer festival season in Kilkenny. However, thanks to our large network of professional artists and our backup artist guarantee, we can often accommodate last-minute requests. If you have an event coming up soon, get in touch today and we’ll do our absolute best to make it happen!

Do I need to provide any materials or equipment?

Not at all! We are a completely mobile service. We bring the boards, the paint, the safety gear, and the talent. All we need from you is a designated space (ideally 3x3 metres or larger) and a bit of lighting if it’s an evening event. We handle the heavy lifting and the cleanup, leaving you free to enjoy the "wow" factor we bring to your Kilkenny venue.

The experience

Why choose live painting for your event in the heart of Kilkenny? It’s more than just art; it’s an interactive spectacle that bridges the gap between the artist and the audience. Here’s why it works: 🔥

Unmatched Visual Impact: Nothing draws a crowd like the rhythmic hiss of a spray can and the sudden pop of bright colours on a huge board. 🎨
Social Media Gold: Guests can't help but film the process, giving your event instant "viral" potential and organic reach online. 📸
Completely Bespoke: We can incorporate your company logo, event theme, or local Kilkenny landmarks into the final design. 🏆
Professional & Reliable: Our artists are seasoned pros who show up on time, stay sober, and work with total focus to deliver a "wow" result. 💪
The Ultimate Souvenir: You get a custom-made piece of art to keep, display, or even auction off after the event finishes. 🖼️

Step by step

Initial Consultation: You tell us about your Kilkenny event, the vibe you're going for, and any specific themes or logos you want included.
Design Concept: Our artist creates a rough sketch or mood board based on your input to ensure the creative vision aligns with your goals.
Site Assessment: We check the logistics of your Kilkenny venue, whether it’s an outdoor courtyard or an indoor ballroom, to plan the setup.
Setup & Prep: On the day, we arrive early to set up our "canvas," layout drop-cloths, and prep our professional-grade spray cans.
The Performance: As your guests arrive, the artist begins. Watch the transformation from a blank surface to a stunning piece of street art.
Guest Interaction: Our artists are friendly and love chatting with curious onlookers about the techniques and the Kilkenny street art scene.
The Big Reveal: The final details are added as the event reaches its peak, resulting in a finished masterpiece and a great photo op.
Drying & Cleanup: We ensure the area is spotless and the paint is dry before we hand over the artwork or pack up our gear.
Post-Event Follow-up: We make sure you're 100% happy with the result and help coordinate transport for the artwork if needed.

Local culture

Kilkenny might be famous for its medieval history and the "Marble City" aesthetic, but there’s a growing appetite for contemporary urban art nestled between those historic walls. From the creative energy of the Kilkenny Arts Festival to the hidden gems of street art found in local lanes, the city is a canvas waiting to be explored. We love bringing our live painting setup to Kilkenny because the local crowd truly appreciates craftsmanship and storytelling.

Fun Fact: Did you know Kilkenny gets its "Marble City" nickname from the distinctive black limestone found nearby? While we usually stick to canvases and boards, the contrast of vibrant graffiti colours against Kilkenny’s historic grey stone backgrounds looks absolutely stunning! 🏰
