Is spray painting safe for primary school children?

Absolutely! We use special low-odour spray cans and provide high-quality protective gear, including masks and gloves. Our professional artists are experts at supervising younger children, ensuring they follow safety protocols while having a blast. The workshop is conducted in well-ventilated outdoor areas or specially prepared spaces in Dortmund to ensure everyone stays safe and healthy throughout the creative process.

How long does the graffiti workshop last?

A standard primary school workshop in Dortmund usually lasts between 1.5 to 2.5 hours. This includes the introductory safety briefing, the design phase, and the hands-on painting session. We find this timeframe is perfect for keeping children's attention spans engaged without them getting too tired. We can also adjust the timing to fit into your specific school timetable or after-school club schedule.

Do we need to provide any materials?

We provide everything! Your school doesn't need to worry about a thing. We bring all the spray cans in a rainbow of colours, protective suits, gloves, masks, and the "canvases" (which can be large wooden panels or individual boards). We just need access to an outdoor space or a very well-ventilated area and some excited kids ready to learn!

Do the children need any previous art experience?

Not at all. Our workshops are designed for absolute beginners. We start with the basics, teaching the kids how to hold the can and create simple lines. Our artists guide them through every step, from sketching their first tag to adding the final highlights. It’s all about discovery and building confidence through a new medium, regardless of their prior artistic experience.

What happens if it rains on the day of the workshop?

Safety first! If the weather in Dortmund looks like it might rain, we have a few options. We can move the workshop to a covered outdoor area if available, or we can reschedule the event. Because we have a large team of backup artists, we are very flexible with rescheduling to ensure the kids get the best possible experience in good conditions.

How much does a primary school graffiti workshop cost?

The cost typically ranges between €30 and €65 per child. The final price depends on the total number of pupils, the duration of the session, and whether you want a large collective mural or individual canvases for the kids to take home. We recommend using our online Cost Calculator or requesting a custom quote for the most accurate pricing for your school.

Does this workshop have educational value?

Definitely. Graffiti is a fantastic way to teach children about teamwork, respect for public spaces (distinguishing between art and vandalism), and colour theory. It’s also brilliant for developing fine motor skills and boosting self-esteem. Many Dortmund schools use our workshops to decorate drab playground walls, giving the children a sense of pride and ownership over their school environment.

The tag creator: Kids learn the history of "tagging" and practice designing their own unique artist signature on paper.
Mastering the can: Under the guidance of our pros, students learn basic techniques like "caps," pressure control, and how to create clean lines.
Sketching the concept: Whether it's a school motto or a nature theme, we sketch the large-scale design onto the workshop surface.

Local culture

Dortmund is a city that knows all about transformation—from its industrial coal and steel roots to becoming a modern hub of culture and football. That same spirit of reinvention is alive in its street art scene. While everyone knows the yellow and black of the BVB, the city's "Union Quarter" (Unionviertel) is actually a hidden gem of urban creativity, filled with massive murals and gritty, artistic soul. 🎨

Fun Fact: Did you know that the famous "Dortmunder U" building isn't just a landmark, but a centre for art and creativity? It towers over the city as a symbol of how old industrial spaces can become beacons of modern expression—exactly the kind of "outside the box" thinking we encourage in our workshops!
