Is the graffiti workshop safe for teenagers?

Absolutely! At Graffitifun, safety is our number one priority. We provide high-quality respiratory masks, gloves, and protective suits for every participant. Our professional artists are trained to supervise youth groups, ensuring that the spray cans are used responsibly. We also use low-odour paints where possible and conduct our Dortmund workshops in well-ventilated outdoor areas or legal spray zones to ensure a healthy environment for everyone.

How long does a typical youth workshop last?

Our youth projects in Dortmund usually last between 1.5 and 3 hours. This gives the group enough time to learn the basic techniques, practice their 'tags' on paper, and then create a large-scale collaborative mural. If you have a specific schedule or a full-day youth event planned, we can easily adapt the duration to fit your programme's needs. Just let us know!

What materials do we need to provide?

We provide everything! Your booking includes premium spray cans in a huge variety of colours, protective gear (suits, masks, gloves), caps (nozzles), and the 'canvas'—whether that is a mobile wooden wall, a legal city wall, or individual canvases to take home. You just need to bring your enthusiasm and wear some old clothes and trainers that you don't mind getting a tiny bit of paint on.

What are the costs for a youth graffiti project?

The cost for a youth project in Dortmund typically ranges from €30 to €65 per person. This price fluctuates based on the total number of participants, the amount of materials required, and whether we are coming to your location or using one of our partner spots. We are very flexible and always aim to find a solution that fits within a youth club or community centre budget.

What happens if it rains on the day of the workshop?

Rain won't stop the creativity! We always have a backup plan. In Dortmund, we can often move the workshop to a sheltered outdoor area or use an indoor location with proper ventilation. Because we have a large team of backup artists, we almost never cancel. If the weather is truly extreme, we will work with you to reschedule for the earliest possible date.

Do the participants need previous drawing skills?

Not at all! Our workshops are designed for absolute beginners. Our Dortmund street artists are experts at breaking down complex concepts into simple, fun steps. We start with basics like how to hold a can and move on to 'fading' and 'outlining'. By the end of the session, even those who thought they weren't artistic will be amazed at what they have created.

Can you host the workshop at our own youth centre?

We love travel! While we have great spots in Dortmund, our artists are mobile and can come to your youth centre, school, or sports club. As long as there is a suitable outdoor space and we have the necessary permissions (or use our mobile walls), we can bring the full graffiti experience directly to your doorstep anywhere in the Ruhr area.

The experience

Why choose a graffiti project for your next youth initiative? It’s more than just paint—it’s a powerful tool for self-expression and community building. Check out why Dortmund youth love our sessions:

Instant Empowerment: There is nothing like the feeling of finishing a 2-metre high mural to boost a young person's self-esteem! 🎨
Teamwork in Action: Participants have to communicate and collaborate to ensure their individual pieces work as one cohesive masterpiece. 🤝
Safe & Legal: We teach the difference between vandalism and street art, providing a legal outlet for their creative energy. ✅
Zero Barrier to Entry: You don't need to be 'good at drawing' to make something that looks professional with our techniques. ✨
Expert Mentors: Our artists aren't just teachers; they are active members of the graffiti scene who inspire through their own work. 🎤
Unforgettable Memories: It’s a unique experience that gets them off their screens and into the fresh air of Dortmund. 🌳

Step by step

Introduction & Safety: We start with a warm welcome and a breakdown of the safety rules, fitting everyone with masks and suits.
History & Culture: A quick, engaging talk about the roots of graffiti and its evolution from the streets to the galleries.
Sketching Session: Participants grab markers and paper to plan their designs, learning about letter structure and 'flow'.
Can Control: The fun begins! We teach the basics of pressure control, line thickness, and how to swap 'caps' for different effects.
Background Techniques: Learn how to create stunning galaxy effects, colour gradients, and 'bubbles' for the mural's background.
Filling In: This is where the colour happens. The group works together to fill their designs with vibrant hues.
Outlining & Highlights: The pros show how to add sharp outlines and 'shines' to make the artwork pop off the wall.
The Finale: We step back to admire the finished masterpiece, take group photos, and discuss the teamwork involved.

Local culture

Dortmund is a city that wears its heart on its sleeve—and its art on its walls. From the iconic 'U' tower to the gritty, creative energy of the Unionviertel, street art is woven into the city's fabric. Our workshops tap into this local heritage, showing young people that they are part of a massive creative movement. We often draw inspiration from the city's industrial past and its passionate football culture to help kids design pieces that feel truly 'Dortmund'.

Fun Fact: Did you know Dortmund is home to some of the most famous 'hall of fame' walls in the Ruhr area? These are legal spots where artists from all over Europe come to showcase their talent, providing the perfect backdrop for our local youth projects.
